Objective

■ In this lesson you will learn


– Tabulate related literature
– Synthesize information from relevant literature
– Cite related literature using standard style
The review of related literature are essential
preliminary action for doing research.
Tabulating Source

■ What is tabulation?
– It is a systematic and logical presentation of numerical data in rows and columns
to facilitate comparison and statistical analysis.
– In review of literature it may be tabulate using the summary table.
What is a summary table?
■ May contain the number of column as identified by the researcher.
■ Maybe created electronically using either word or spreadsheet
■ It will serve as a guide that makes ease of formulating synthesis regarding the topic
■ Helps the researcher create list of of the references for the final paper
Suggested Summary table

■ It must contain the following:


– Title of the Journal, volume, issue number (if applicable) and page number
– Title of article
– Name of the researcher/s of authors/s
– Objectives of the paper
– Delineated factors or variable used in the study
– Locus od the study
– Methods used by the study
Synthesizing Related Literature

■ What is synthesizing?
– we are comparing the finding of the literature that we gathered, the variables,
methods and theo objective.
– We can combine two or more authors with the same findings or statements
Citations
■ Citation is done when the researcher refers to another author’s work or his or her paper.
– It is necessary under the ff circumstances:
■ Paraphrases
■ Summarizes
■ Quoting
■ Referencing

Citations purpose:
1. Help readers detect and locate the source of the work
2. Prove that the opinion is well-researched
3. Acknowledge the author of an original concept or theory presented.
Commonly used forms of Citations

■ Modern Language Association Style


■ American Psychological Association Style
■ Chicago Manual of Style
