Summary of Literature
Reviewed
• The structure of the pump was modified in [4] by removing the throat portion and
introducing a suction chamber instead. This was done to perform mixing in low pressure
region therefore to reduce pressure ratio. The turbulence dissipation was observed to be
reducing with increase in diffuser length. Decrease in the pressure ratio resulted in
cavitation at nozzle exit, therefore loss in energy over diffuser length.
• In [6], It was found that the efficiency of a single nozzle jet pump with tapered throat
increases up to 36%. The efficiency of the pump was found to be decreased by 4% with
increase in Surface roughness from 25 microns to 100 microns.
• The jet pump performance for both negative and positive suction head configurations was
done. The optimum value for x/d was found to be about 1.25 and motive pressure for the
same was found to be 1.5 bar (up-lifting) for negative suction head.[7]
• Incase of jet pump, (x/d) ratio of spacing to diameter of nozzle, (d/l) of mixing chamber,
area ratios of mixing chamber diameter for three different driving nozzle diameter, and
three different diffuser angles were also taken into consideration. It was found that for x/d
ratio, x=1 gives better efficiency.[8]

Identified Gap
• Many researchers have successfully provided an insight on the effects and
outcomes of varying operational and geometric parameters on
educator/ejector such as area ratio, mixing chamber length, discharge ratio,
flow ratio, critical pressure ratio, removal of throat between nozzle and
diffuser and so on for single phase mixing.
• Alongside this, performance parameters of jet pump have been studied
through experimental basis, the investigation of the influence of pressure and
nozzle spacing on the working of a waterjet pump and also the effect of nozzle-
to-throat spacing to nozzle diameter ratio and the driving pressure on the jet
pump performance for both negative and positive suction head configurations
when pumping clear water has been recorded.
• The use of a hopper was extensively detailed for mixing of two phase
materials. Yet chemical mixing has not been elucidated to a greater extent.
• No firm solution to mixing of two-phase corrosives has been put forth since it
is not possible to pump corrosives directly.
