Biology Holidays Homework

The document summarizes six key life processes - nutrition, transportation, respiration, reproduction, and excretion. It provides details on nutrition, describing autotrophic and heterotrophic nutrition. Autotrophic nutrition involves photosynthesis where plants use carbon dioxide, water and sunlight to produce glucose and oxygen. Heterotrophic nutrition involves predation, parasitism and saprophytism. The human digestive and respiratory systems are also summarized, outlining the main organs involved and their functions.

LIFE PROCESSES
These basic essential activities performed by an organism are
called as
life processes.
Altogether there are six life processes which predict the condition
of life.
Important life processes include nutrition, transportation,
respiration,
 reproduction, and excretion.
NUTRITION RESPIRATION
TRANSPORTATION REPRODUCTION
EXCRETION
NUTRITIO
Nutrition is the science that interprets the
N
nutrients and other substances in food in relation
to maintenance, growth, reproduction, health and
disease of an organism.
AUTOTROPHIC
SYNTHESIS OF OWN FOOD BY USING CO2,H2O ETC.HETROTROPHIC
UNABLE TO SYNTHESIS OWN FOOD &

HUMAN DIGESTIVE
SYSTEM Teeth chew grind and crunch the food.
1.MOUTH(Oral Cavity)

Tongue helps in mastication and

swallowing the food. Saliva released by
salivary glands lubricate the food.
2.OESOPHAGUS(Food pipe)
Takes food from mouth to stomach by
peristaltic movements.
3.STOMACH
It is a muscular,3-shaped bag like
structure where partial digestion of food
takes place by the relax of gastric juices
4.SMALL INTESTINE
It is the longest, narrow tube which is
the site for complete digestion.
Certain glands like liver and
pancreas release enzyme through
ducts which help in the digestion of
carbohydrates, fats & proteins.
5.LARGE INTESTINE
The unabsorbed food is sent into the
large intestine where its walls absorb
more water from the material.
6.ANUS
Undigested food in the form of faeces
(cellulose & fibres) is thrown out.
respiration
It can be defined as inhalation of O2 and exhalation
of CO2 coupled with the chemical reaction that
release energy from digested food.
Respiration by plants
Gaseous exchange
in plants takes
place with the
help of tiny pores
present on the
surface of
leaves(stomata) .It
occurs due to
Breakdown of glucose
Breakdown of glucose by various pathways :- ADP + P --- ADP ~P = ATP
When the terminal phosphate linkage in ATP
is broken using water , the energy equivalent to 30.5 litre/mol is released.

HUMAN RESPIRATORY
SYSTEM 1.NASALCAVITY
Air enters through nostrils and
filtered by hair follicles ; mucus
and blood vessels warm up the
air.
2.PHARYNX
Common passage that opens
both into the oesophagus and
trachea.
3.LARYNX
It is a sound producing organ
and is also known as voice box.
4.TRACHEA
It is the wind pipe which allows air to
pass into lungs . In the chest region ,
it divides into tubes called bronchi .
Each boundaries further divides into
bronchioles which end in air sacs.
5.ALVEOLI
These are balloon like structures for
the exchange of gases. They are
extremely supplied by blood vessels.
6.RIB CAGE AND DIAPHAGRAM
This is a boxy chamber which
protects the soft lungs.
Diaphragm is a dome shaped muscle
which facilitates the movement of air
