Bes 026 P3 Examination

This document contains 4 physics problems involving projectile motion, kinematics, and forces. Problem 1 asks for the initial velocity of a second ball shot vertically to meet the first ball after 4 seconds at a height of 386.4 feet. Problem 2 involves two balls, one dropped and one thrown upward, meeting at a certain time and location. Problem 3 requires computing the velocity and acceleration of a particle given its position equation at t=2 seconds. Problem 4 involves finding the acceleration of one block hanging from another block and the tension in the cord between them, given their masses and the coefficient of kinetic friction.

Problem 1
1. A ball is shot vertically into the air at a velocity of 193.2 ft/sec. After 4 sec., another ball is shot vertically
into the air. What initial velocity must the second ball have in order to meet the first ball 386.4 ft from the
ground?
Problem 2
2. A ball is dropped from the top of the tower 80 ft high at same instant that a second ball is thrown upward
from the high ground with an initial velocity of 40 ft/sec. When and where do they pass, and with what
relative velocity?
Problem 3
3. The motion of a particle is given by the equation 𝑠 = 2𝑡4 − 𝑡3 6 + 2𝑡2 where s is in feet and t
in seconds. Compute the values of v and a when t=2 sec.
Problem 4
4. Compute the acceleration of block B in the given figure and the tension of the cord attached to it if block
A=300 lb, B=400 lb, and the coefficient of kinetic friction is 0.20
