Pictorial Drawing Powerpoint

Pictorial drawings provide a 3D representation of an object and show multiple views in a single drawing. There are three main types: isometric drawings show three faces at 30 degree angles, oblique drawings use 45 degree lines to show depth, and perspective drawings use vanishing points to create a realistic view. Pictorial drawings are useful for patents, technical drawings, and appear in exams to demonstrate understanding of 3D objects.

What is Pictorial Drawing?

•A Pictorial drawing provides a 3D image to help understand the

shape of an object or to assist in interpreting a drawing.

•It provides a realistic view of the object and shows 3 faces in one
drawing.

•Its easy to visualise the object.

•There are three types of Pictorial drawings

1: Isometric
2: Oblique
3: Perspective

Where do we see Pictorial Drawings?

•Pictorial Drawings are used in patents for designs because of their
similarity to how the object is viewed in the real world.

•We also see Pictorial drawings in your workbooks and it will also be
shown in your Junior Cycle Exam.

1: Isometric
• Isometric drawing is the most commonly used method of pictorial
drawing.

• Isometric drawings are built on three lines, called isometric axes.

•We draw and vertical line then draw the principal axes at 30° to the left and
30° to the right.
`
•We mark the overall length, width and height of the solid along the axes
and lightly draw the box.

•Mark off the intermediate lengths and heights. Draw lines at 30° to the left
from the corners of the front face.

•Complete the drawing by drawing vertical lines and lines at 30°

2: Oblique
•Oblique projection is probably the simplest method of
producing a pictorial drawing because surfaces are
directly in front of the viewer.

•It is a method of drawing objects in 3 dimensions with

receding lines are drawn at 45° to the horizontal.

•Oblique projection is probably the simplest method of

producing a pictorial drawing.

2: Oblique

•Draw the front face of the object shown.

•Draw light lines at 45° from the corners.

•Set the given depth on a compass and mark off the depth on the light lines.

•Complete the drawing by drawing vertical and 45° lines.

3: Perspective

•A Perspective Drawing is one of the best types of

drawings to use to provide a pictorial representation
of an object.

•This method produces a drawing that is the most

realistic view to what the human eye can see.

•Each given point is drawn back to either 1 or more

vanishing points as seen in the picture on the right.
