 Main Points :

  
 NC’s can be classified according to their form in different categories:
  
 a. That-clause: They didn’t tell me that he was here .
  
 Finite-Clauses
  
 b. Dependant- Interrogative- Clause (WH-):
 They didn’t tell me when he would be here
  
  
  

  
 c. To-infinitive Clause: They will tell you to be here
 early.
  
 Non-Finite Clauses


 b. -ing-clause: Telling lies is wrong
  
 NC’s can have different functions in the sentence- the same functions
a noun phrase performs:
  
  
 a. Subject: Whether we need it is a different matter.
  
 b. Direct object: I don’t know whether we need it.
  
 c. Subject Complement: The problem is whether we need it .
  
 d. Adjectival Complement : I’m not sure whether we need it .
  
 e. Prepositional object: The decision must depend on whether
 we need it .
  
 f. Appositive: That question, whether we need it, has not yet
been considered.
