Chemistry Notes

Composite materials are made by combining two or more non-homogeneous substances, called the matrix and strengthening substances. The matrix substance binds the strengthening substance together. Reinforced concrete is a composite made of concrete (cement and stone) and steel. The steel strengthens the concrete and prevents rusting. Reinforced concrete is widely used in building and bridge construction because it is stronger and able to withstand greater forces.
