Linux Operating System

Linux is an open source operating system developed in 1991 by Linus Torvalds. It has grown from a few lines of code to over 23 million lines of code and is free to use, modify, and distribute. Linux interacts directly with hardware and uses system libraries to allow applications to access kernel features. It is portable, secure, lightweight, and easy to update due to its open source nature, though it can be difficult for beginners to use and lacks some applications available on other systems. There are many Linux distributions including Ubuntu, Fedora, Linux Mint, and OpenSUSE.
