What Is IP Address

An IP address is a numerical label assigned to devices connected to a computer network using the Internet Protocol. There are private and public IP addresses. Private IP addresses are for internal networks while public addresses can be accessed from the internet. Public IP addresses can be static, remaining fixed over time, or dynamic, assigned automatically by a DHCP server. IPV4 uses 32-bit addressing but is limited, while IPV6 uses 128-bit addressing for a vastly larger number of available addresses and improved features.
