The methods we will be discussing in this

presentation allow one to find factors of a quadratic
equation in seconds.
SUB - SUTRAS
To factorise quadratic equations, Vedic Math
has two small sub-sutras or corollaries.
1.Anurupyena
2.Adyamadyenantyamantyena
Both sutras are used together to find the factors
of quadratic equations. Let’s understand the
process now
1. आनुरुप्येण
Anurupyena
आनुरुप्येण means Proportionality
This sutra involves splitting the middle term into two parts
such that the ratio of the first coefficient to first part is same
as the ratio of second part to the last coefficient.

ax2 + bx + c = 0
b= d + e
a/d =that
such e/c

Hence, the first factor = (ax + d)

2. आद्यमाद्येनान्त्यमन्तयेन
Adyam-adyen-antyam-antyena
आद्यमाद्येनान्त्यमन्तयेन means The first by the first and the last by the last.

After using the former sutra to find one factor, we find second factor of the
quadratic equation using this sub-sutra. The second factor is obtained by
dividing the first coefficient of the quadratic by the first coefficient of the factor
already found and the last coefficient of the quadratic by the last coefficient of
that factor.

First factor = (ax + d)

Second factor = (ax2/ax + c/d)

NOW LET’S SEE
SOME

EXAMPLES
Example 1 : 9x² - 15x + 4

Anurupyena
Split middle terms coeff(-15) in 2 parts such that
coeff of x² term to 1st coeff of x term = Ratio of 2nd coeff of x term to constant term .

Hence split it in -12 and -3 (9/-12=-3/4) => 9x² - 12x -3x + 4

So 1st factor: 3x-4 (3:-4)

Adyamadyenantyanantyena
Divide the first term (9x²) of eq by 1st term of factor(3x) and
divide last term of eq (4) by 2st term of factor (-4)

So 2nd factor: 3x-1

Example 2 : 6x² + 11x - 10

Anurupyena
Split middle terms coeff(11) in 2 parts such that
coeff of x² term to 1st coeff of x term = Ratio of 2nd coeff of x term to constant term .

Hence split it in 15 and -4 (6/15 = -4/-10) => 6x² + 15x -4x - 10

So 1st factor: 2x+5 (2:5)

Adyamadyenantyanantyena
Divide the first term (6x²) of eq by 1st term of factor(2x) and
divide last term of eq (-10) by 2nd term of factor (5)

So 2nd factor: 3x - 2
Example 3 : 15x² - 14x - 8

Anurupyena
Split middle terms coeff(-14) in 2 parts such that
coeff of x² term to 1st coeff of x term = Ratio of 2nd coeff of x term to constant term .

Hence split it in -20 and -6 (15/-20 = 6/-8) => 15x² -20x – 6x -8

So 1st factor: 3x - 4 (3:4)

Adyamadyenantyanantyena
Divide the first term (15x²) of eq by 1st term of factor(3x) and
divide last term of eq (-8) by 2nd term of factor (-4)

So 2nd factor: 5x + 2
VERIFICATION

गुणितसमुच्चयः समुच्चयगुणित:

Gunitsamuchchyah Samuchchyagunitah

“The product of the sum of the coefficients in

the factors is equal to the sum of the
coefficients in the product.”
FOR EXAMPLE:

(i) 9x²-15x+4=(3x-4)(3x-1)
And we observe that

⇒9 - 15 + 4 = (3 - 4)(3 - 1)
⇒-2 = -2

(ii) 6x²+11x-10=(2x+5)(3x-2)
⇒6 + 11 - 10 = (2 + 5)(3 - 2)
⇒7 = 7

(iii) 15x²-14x-8=(3x-4)(5x+2)
⇒15 - 14 - 8 = (3 - 4)(5 + 2)
⇒-7 = -7
TRICK: HOW TO FIND A PARTICULAR DATE

Step1. Start by multiplying your month by 5.

(Month X 5) = Result 1

Step 2. Add 6 to result 1

(Result 1 + 6) = Result 2

Step3. Multiply Result 2 by 4

(Result 2 x4) = Result 3

Step4) Add 9 to Result 3

(Result 3+ 9) = Result 4

Step5.) Multiply Result 4 by 5.

(Result 4 x 5) = Result 5

Step6.) Add your date to find result and

(Result 5+ Date)

CONCEPT OF ANGLES
Computing trigonometric ratio of twice the angle (2A)

All the three sides are related via a special

Condition (condition are a2 + b2 = c2 (Pythagoras
Theorem)).

This is known as triple and also called Pythagorean

triplet.

The triple for angle A is a, b and c

a = Base
b =Perpendicular
c = Hypotenuse

a2 + b2 = c2
On extending the result for twice the angle

i.e. 2A, we can find that the triples for the

angle 2A are 2ab , b2 - a2 and c2

1st Value 2nd Value 3rd Value

sin 2A = 1st value/3rd value

cos 2A = 2nd value/3rd value
tan 2A = 1st value/2nd value
Example : If sin A = 3/5, find tan 2A

We have
sin A = 3/5
Here a = 3 and c = 5 so obviously b =4.

Now make the triple for twice the angle, i.e. for 2A.
The triples are:

2ab b2 - a2 and c2

2*3 *4 42 -- 32 52

24 7 25

Hence, tan 2A = 1st value/2nd value = 24/7

Computing trigonometric relation for thrice the angle (3A)

The triple for angle A is a, b and c

a = Base

b = Perpendicular

c = Hypotenuse

a2 + b2 = c2
On extending the result for thrice the angle i.e. 3A

The triples for 3A are :

3ac2 - 4a3 4b3 – 3bc2 and c3

1st value 2nd value 3rd value

sin3A = 1st value/ 3rd value

cos3A = 2nd value/ 3rd value
tan3A = 1st value/ 2nd value
Example: If tan A = 7/24, find sin 3A and cos 3A.
The triple for angle A:

tan A = 7/24 = 1st value/2nd value

Hence, the missing part of the triple = 25 = 3rd

value, i.e. a = 7, b = 24 and c = 25

Let us find the value of the triple for angle 3A.

3ac2 -- 4a 3 4b3 – 3bc2 and c3

3*7*252 – 4*73 4*243 - 3*24*252 253

11753 10296 15625

sin3A = 1st value/ 3rd value = 11753/15625

cos3A = 2nd value/ 3rd value = 10296/15625
Computing trigonometric relation for half the angle (A/2)

If the triplets for the angle A are a , b and c , then

triples for A/2 are :

a b+c and √(b+c) 2 + a2

1st value 2nd value 3rd value

sinA/2 = 1st value/ 3rd value

cosA /2= 2nd value/ 3rd value
tanA/2 = 1st value/ 2nd value
Example: If sin A = 12/13, find value of tanA/2.

We have, sin A = 1st value/3rd value .

Here, a = 12 c = 13 therefore from the triple

table b = 5 Now find the triple for A/2

a b+c and √(b+c) 2 + a2

12 5+13 √ 18 2 + 12 2

12 18 6 √ 13

Hence, tanA/2 = 1st value/ 2nd value = 12/18
