What is a Birth Trauma?

Birth trauma is any physical or emotional distress you may


experience during or after childbirth.
Birth trauma refers to physical or emotional injuries that occur
during the birthing process for both the mother and the baby.
What is the first trauma of birth? Sigmund freud viewed birth as
the child’s birth anxiety experience and the prototype of
separation anxiety.
Types of Birth Injury
A birth injury is any physical injury that occurs during
childbirth.
Another term for birth injury is birth trauma.
Birth injury treatment depends on the type, severity, and other
factors. One of the most common types of birth injury is brain
damage, most often caused by asphyxia or oxygen deprivation.
The most common consequence of brain damage during
birth is cerebral palsy.
How do you know if you have birth trauma?
Some psychological symptoms, including the ‘baby’s
blue’, are very common around the time of birth. If
you still feel distressed for 2 or more weeks after the
birth, you could have postnatal depression or
anxiety or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

How does traumatic birth affect the baby?


Birth trauma can affect infants in adverse
way. The results pf birth trauma can include
feeding problems, bonding issues, and
emotional health.
