UI Cloud Class 4.2
UI Cloud Class 4.2
PaaS : AWS Elastic Beanstalk, Heroku, Windows Azure (mostly used as PaaS),
Force.com, OpenShift, Apache Stratos, Magento Commerce Cloud.
IaaS : AWS EC2, Rackspace, Google Compute Engine (GCE), Digital Ocean,
Magento 1 Enterprise Edition*
IaaS
i.e. With IaaS, you can buy what you need, as you need it, and
purchase more as your business grows.
Who use it? System Administrators
ii. Pay-as-you-go: The customer charge only for what they have used. This saves the
extra cost and expands the business very quickly.
iii. Secure: The data stored is secured as the snapshots of the data are stored in many
places so if in case a disaster takes place the data can retrieve from other places.
Moreover, the data is secure and can access by the allotted authorities only.
Example of IaaS is AWS EC2.
EC2 provides scalable infrastructure for companies who want to host cloud-
based applications.
EC2 users do not own the physical servers; AWS provides virtual servers.
So users only pay for the usage of the servers, saving them the
cost (and associated ongoing maintenance) of investing in
physical hardware.
Example of IaaS
DIGITALOCEAN
Location: New York,
How it’s using the cloud: Digital Ocean’s platform helps product teams
deploy, manage and scale new products. Under the IaaS platform, users can
create multiple virtual machines in seconds, and they can even scale based on
data storage and incoming traffic.
Industry impact: WeWork, Splunk and Slack all use DigitalOcean’s IaaS
platform to deploy and scale their products.
Paas
A PaaS vendor provides hardware and software tools over the internet, and people
use these tools to develop applications. PaaS users tend to be developers.
PaaS is a popular choice for businesses who want to create unique applications
without spending a fortune or taking on all the responsibility.
Most of these services can be used as IaaS, and most companies who use
AWS will pick and choose the services they need.
How it’s using the cloud: Heroku is a multi-language cloud app platform
that lets developers deploy, scale and manage their applications.
With SaaS, you don’t need to install and run software applications on your
computer (or any computer).
Everything is available over the internet when you log in to your account online.
You can usually access the software from any device, anytime (as long as there is
an internet connection).
When to use it: SaaS platforms are ideal for when you want an
application to run smoothly and reliably with minimal input from
you.
Example of SaaS is Email Server
You want to know that you’ll continue to send and receive emails without
needing to fiddle with your email settings or worry about updates.
Imagine if your email server went under because you forgot to update it
and you went days without email? That’s simply not an option in today’s
marketplace.
If you use a SaaS platform to run your email inbox, the chances of
something going wrong are very small.
You’re not only paying for the SaaS applications/products: you’re paying
for peace of mind.
.
Example of SaaS
ZOOM
Location: San Jose, California
How it’s using the cloud: Zoom is a cloud-based software platform for audio and
video conferencing that records meetings and saves them to the cloud so users can
have access to them anytime, anywhere.
Industry impact: Slack, Uber, NASDAQ and Ticketmaster all use Zoom to boost
collaboration between teams and store meetings for future reference.

Common Example of the services
The number of cloud storage providers online seems to grow every day. Each competing
over the amount of storage they can provide to clients.
Right now, Dropbox is the clear leader in streamlined cloud storage allowing users
to access files on any device through its application or website with up to 1 terabyte of
free storage.
Google’s email service provider Gmail, on the other hand, provides unlimited storage on
the cloud. Gmail has revolutionized the way we send emails and largely responsible for the
increased usage of email worldwide.
Facebook is a mix of the two, in that it can store an infinite amount of information, images,
and videos on your profile. They can then be easily accessed on multiple devices. Facebook
goes a step further with their Messenger app, which allows for profiles to exchange data.
Common Example of all services
SlideRocket is a platform that students can use to build presentations and submit
them. Students can even present them through web conferencing all on the
cloud.
Another tool teachers use is Ratatype, which helps students learn to type faster and
offers online typing tests to track their progress.
For school administration, Amazon’s AWS Cloud for K12 and Primary Education
features a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solution. Through the cloud, allows
instructors and students to access teaching and learning software on multiple
devices.
Common Example of all services
However, many modern hospitals have yet to implement cloud computing but
are forecasted to do so in the near future.

According to the strategy: “focus will shift from the technology itself to the core
competencies and mission of the agency.”
