9 ICT TRENDS, ISSUES

AND CHALLENGES
Technology Trends

 Technology trends refers to the technology that is

recently becoming popular and is readily accepted
in the market or industry.
Technology

 Smarter Devices

 Quantum Computing

 3D Printing
 Datafication

 Artificial Inteligence

 Extended Reality

 Digital Trust
Technology Issues

 it means the problem of a software or a problem

with accessing software that is hosted on a
computer or virtual machine.

Current Trends
9.1 Current Trends
in ICT
Digital Identity Systems
 Digital ID systems are those that use digital
technology throughout the identity lifecycle,
including for data capture, validation, storage, and
transfer; credential management; and identity
verification and authentication.
Examples:

 Date of Birth
 NBI Clearance
 Online search activities
ICT in Education
 ICT enables the use of innovative educational
resources and the renewal of learning methods,
establishing a more active collaboration of students
and the simultaneous acquisition of technological
knowledge. ICT’s are great help in developing
discernment.
Examples:

 Email
 Chat
 Electronic Books
Digital Healthcare
 ICT has bridged the distance towards your
healthcare providers like your doctors even in the
absence of face-to-face interactions. Through ICT, it
enables your doctors to give advice through
looking at your medical information and history
through online platforms,” said Montoya.
Examples:

 Electronic Medical records

 Videoconferencing for doctor
appointments
 Databases on the internet
Mobile Payments
 ICT is helping the banking sector improve its
efficiency and effectiveness of services offered to
customers, and enhance business processes,
managerial decision making, and workgroup
collaborations which strengthen their competitive
positions in rapidly changing and emerging
economies.
Examples:

 Mobile Wallet Applications

 Cryptocurrency
 Contactless Payments
Assistive Technologies
 Assistive technology is technology used by
individuals with disabilities in order to perform
functions that might otherwise be difficult or
impossible.
Examples:

 Wheelchair
 Text to Speech
 Memory aids
Internet of things
 IoT applications are also used for wearables that
can monitor human health and environmental
conditions. Not only do these types of applications
help people better understand their own health,
they also permit physicians to monitor patients
remotely.
Examples:

 Smart factory equipment

 Wearable health monitors
 Smart home security systems
5th Generation Mobile Networks
 5G is the 5th generation mobile network. It is a
new global wireless standard after 1G, 2G, 3G, and
4G networks. 5G enables a new kind of network
that is designed to connect virtually everyone and
everything together including machines, objects,
and devices.
Examples:
 Enhanced agricultural productivity
 Smarter Logistics
 Smarter government management
and services
Artificial Intelegence
 Artificial Intelligence (AI) is poised to fundamentally shift
the Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
industry as technologies such as Machine Learning,
Natural Language Processing, Deep Learning, and others
dramatically enhance the performance of
communications, apps, content, and digital commerce.
Examples:

 Siri
 Tesla
 Nest (Google)
3D Printing
 3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, is a
method of creating a three dimensional object layer-by-
layer using a computer created design. 3D printing is an
additive process whereby layers of material are built up
to create a 3D part.
Examples:

 Prosthetic Limbs and Body parts

 Firearms and Military
 Food
Big Data

 Big Data is a term used to identify the datasets that

whose size is beyond the ability of typical database
software tools to store, manage and analyze.
Examples:

 Transaction Processing Systems

 Documents
 Mobile Apps
9.2 Influence of the
Internet in Software
Development
 The growth of the Internet has had a huge impact on the
software industry, from the ease of creating new businesses
to the processes that companies use to develop, distribute,
and support their products. (Wasserman Anthony, 2011)

 e.g. Today's focus on product marketing centers on driving

potential buyers to the business' website. Both hosting a
web application and releasing things online are more
effective and affordable alternatives for businesses to
market their goods. (Wasserman Anthony, 2011)
 According to QATestLab 2013, when a user starts a
program it connects to the internet, uploads necessary
data and updates before the user begins to utilize it,
Many of the software products cannot operate without
connection to the web and the other software products
require fast reliable connection.
Different Types of
Application
Program
General Application
 is a computer software package that performs a
specific function directly for an end user or, in some
cases, for another application.

 With a general application, Crelate customers can

allow applicants to enter their information into the
database without applying for a specific position.
Examples of General
Application:
Word Processing Multimedia Web
Software Software Browsers
Business
Application
 is a collection of components that provide business
functionality that can be used internally, externally,
or in conjunction with other business applications. You
can create business applications from individual
components that are related to each other.
Examples of Business
Application:
CRM Application Resource Management Educational
Software Application Software Software
Custom Developed
Applications
 refers to the process designing of software
applications for a specific user or group of users
within an organization. This custom software is
designed to address specific needs within an
organization as opposed to more traditional,
standard software used by the masses.
Examples of Custom Developed Application:

Netflix Uber Apple

Internet affected the Growth and
Development of New Software
 The growth of the Internet has had a huge impact on the
software industry, from the ease of creating new
businesses to the processes that companies use to
develop, distribute, and support their products. Software
architectures and platforms for web applications differ
significantly from traditional desktop and client-server
applications, and require a new generation of
programming languages and development tools.
 Companies can release products over the Internet, or
provide a hosted web application, both of which are
more efficient and less expensive ways to sell their
products. Companies can also support their products
over the Internet through online discussion forums, often
with users helping one another.

 The internet thus has made a big impact in the way the
business gets conducted in both positive as well as a
negative way.
