Micro Teaching

The document explains the concept of Least Common Multiple (LCM) and its related terms, including multiples and common multiples. It provides definitions, examples, and a method for finding the LCM using factorization. By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to identify multiples, common multiples, and calculate the LCM of given numbers.

Topic: Least Common

Multiple (LCM)
Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to
1. State the meaning of multiples of a number
with appropriate examples
2. Identify the common multiples as well as the
lowest common multiples of numbers
3. Use the factorization method to find the lcm
of numbers.
Multiples of numbers
A multiple is the number obtained by multiplying a
certain number by any number.

Examples:
Multiples of 2
2x1, 2x2, 2x3, 2x4, 2x5, ……
2 4 6 8 10
Hence, the multiples of 2 are 2,4,6,8,10,
etc.
Multiples of 7 are
= 7x1, 7x2, 7x3, 7x4, 7x5, ....
= 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, etc.
Common Multiples Of Numbers

If a set of numbers have the same or

shared multiples, the shared multiples
are called the common multiples of
those numbers.

Example 1
Find the common multiples of 2 and 3
solution
Multiples of 2 are
2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16,18,20…
Multiples of 3 are
3,6,9,12,15,18,21,24,27…
Common multiples of 2 and 3 are
6,12,18, etc.
Least Common Multiples Of Numbers

The least or lowest common multiple of a set

of numbers is the smallest among their
common multiples.
Therefore, the least common multiple of 2 and
3 from the example above is 6
Factorization method
Example 1:
Find the lcm of 15 and 20.
Solution

5 15 20

3 3 4

2 1 4
2 1 2
1 1

Lcm of 15 and 20 = 5x3x2x2

= 60
