INTRODUCTION
Delhi

Metro Rail Corporation(DMRC) was established by Government of India and government of Delhi in march 1995. The network consists of six lines with an overall length of 183.7 kms Consists of 140 stations of which 35 are underground and others

ADVANTAGES

Has a carrying capacity as high as 60,000 80,000 phpdt (peak hour peak direction traffic). Requires 1/5th energy per passenger km. compared to road based system. Causes no air pollution in the city and lesser noise levels. Occupies no road space if underground and only about 2 metre width of the road, along central median, if elevated

Contd.

Carries same amount of traffic as 6 lanes of bus traffic or 26 lanes of private motor cars(each way). Is more reliable, comfortable and safer than road based system. Reduces journey time by anything between 50% and 75% depending on road conditions .

NETWORK
Phases in construction Of Delhi Metro: Phase I completed 65.11km (40.46 mi) of route length, of which 13.01km (8.08 mi) is underground and 52.10km (32.37 mi) surface or elevated. Phase II of the network comprises 128km (80 mi) of route length and 79 stations Phases III (112km) and IV (108.5km) are planned to be completed by 2015 and 2021 respectively, with the network spanning 413km (257 mi) by then.
