Hydrological Analysis5

The document summarizes two methods for estimating flood discharge - the DHM/WECS study method and the rational formula method. The DHM/WECS method is based on hydrological studies from 1991 and provides equations to calculate the 2-year and 100-year flood discharges based on watershed area. For a watershed area of 16.87 km^2, the 2-year discharge is 23.54 m^3/sec and the 100-year discharge is 121.24 m^3/sec. The rational formula method calculates discharge as a function of runoff coefficient C, rainfall intensity I, and drainage area A.

DHM/ WECS STUDY METHOD

The method is based on hydrological studies of the rivers of Nepal carried out by WECS (Water
and Energy Commission) in 1991 in cooperation with DHM (Department of Hydrology and
Meteorology).

Qr= exp (ln Q2+S*d)

Where, d is the standard deviation of the natural logarithms of annual floods; which is given by:
d = ln(Q100/Q2)/2.326
And, S - standardized normal variate for a particular return period R. The value of S for return
period of 50 years is 2.054. Thus
