Unit Topic: Music and Dance in Culture Subject: Music

Grade(s): 6-8 Time Frame: 4 weeks

Stage 1 - Desired Results

Students will research, choreograph, and compose music to teach their peers in class and
ultimately lead at a community participatory event in a community area.

Stage 2- Evidence

Students will be assessed based on participation, their mastery of the music, dance, and their
knowledge on the culture they chose to teach about.

Stage 3- Learning Plan

Learning activities include-


Discussing culture and musics role in social and political movements in the culture
Discussing cultural appropriation and the dangers of stereotyping
Learning the dance of the culture of study
Exploring and discussing the chosen cultures, songs and dances.
Teaching projects to the rest of the class.
Bringing projects out into the community at a community event
