STATISTICAL ANALYSIS

ASSIGNMENT 2

CHOWDHURY

DPS

FEBRUARY 9, 2017
QUESTION 1

STUDENTS Pass Fail

Who do homework 0.90 0.10
Who did not do homework 0.25 0.75
Probability of passing the homework and doing homework (0.75)

Probability of students who do homework x pass rate

= 0.75 x 0.90

= 0.675 or 67.5%

QUESTION 2

Jason and Lisas outdoor reception plan

Probability of bad weather = 0.25

Probability of disruptive incident = 0.15

Probability of both bad weather and disruptive incident = 0.08

P (Bad weather or Disruptive incident)

Probability of intersection of two events is;

P (A and B) = P(A) x P (B)

Let A = Bad weather will occur

Let B = a disruptive incident will occur

P (A or B) = P (A) x P (B) P (A and B)

= 0.25 + 0.15 0.8

= 0.32

QUESTION 3

Let us suppose that P (IR) denotes the sold Items Returned for refund then

A. Probability that two items sold will be returned for refund will be given by
= P (IR) * P (IR)
= 0.05 * 0.05
= .0025

B. Probability that neither will be returned for refund will be given by

= (1- P (IR)) * (1 P (IR))
= (1 0.05) * (1 0.05)
= 0.95 * 0.95
= 0.9025

QUESTION 4
The probability of two independent events is given by
P (A and B) = P (A) * P (B)
= 0.29 * 0.65
=0.1885
P (A or B) = P (A) + P (B) P (A and B)
= (0.29 + 0.65) 0.1885
= 0.7515

QUESTION 5
From the given information, the table would look like the following:

Vegetarian Non-Vegetarian Total

Male 200 900 1100

Female 400 1000 1400

Total 600 1900 2500

Let us define the events as follows:

P(Male) = probability that selected person is male

P (Female) = probability that selected person is female

P (Veg) = probability that selected person is vegetarian

P (NVeg) = probability that selected person is non-vegetarian

So, P (Male or Veg) = P (Male) + P (Veg) P (Male and Veg). Using information from the table

above,

P (Male) = 1100 / 2500 = 0.44

P (Veg) = 600/2500 = 0.24

P (Male and Veg) = 200 / 2500

P (Male or Veg) = 0.44 + 0.24 0.08

= 0.60

QUESTION 6

From the question, the total numbers on the wheel = 38 and the probability that a player will win

a single play = 1/38.

1. Probability that a player will win for the 1st time on the 10th play will be given by
9
1
P(LLLLLLLLLW) = [ ]
37
38
*
38
From above we can see that L represents losing the game nine he after trying but winning

it 10th time he played it.

P(LLLLLLLLLW) = 2.1%
Thus, there is 2.1 probability of winning the game on 10th play.

2. Probability that it takes the player 50 plays to win for the first time
50
=
37
38[ ]
= 26.4%
Thus, there is a 26.4% probability of taking 50 plays for the player to win the game.

3. Probability that he will win once in 38 plays

Since the question here says at least once in 38 plays so we will calculate probability of

losing him 38 times he played given by

38
= [ ]
37
38
= 63.7%
There is a 63.7 percent probability of the player winning once in 38 plays that he played.
