2.2 History District of Yan, Kedah

2) Housing

Census 2010 revealed that the total living quarters of Malaysia was 7.35
million compared with 5.57 million in 2000. From this total, housing units

In 2000, the preparation of housing in the District of Yan still at low levels compared with the
provision of housing in the District of Langkawi and Pendang. In addition, the increase in the
number of residence for District of Yan only increased by 7.14% compared with other districts.
For example, the county equivalent is Sik, an increase of 9.1% in 2000. District Growth Yan Based on table above, most of the type housing in District of Yan is the home village of
11,010 units which is equivalent to 76.1% of the existing housing in the area Yan. This is

Yan is the district that locate in middle between development area Alor Setar and Sungai
Petani the existing Road Network have an interaction of regional that give fair to all
district including district of Yan. This because when people from both site want to go Alor
Setar or Sungai Petani, they have to go through Yan and Yan will functional as break
place to driver who driving through the road. Type of road that exists at Yan mostly is
Jalan Negeri and Jalan Negeri functional to connect between regional.

Location district of Yan give an opportunities in context of transportation because the


location between district of Kota Setar and Sungai Petani. Road network is mainly factor
why people go through district of Yan. From that we know that Yan is important because
its location between two major cities in Kedah.

District of Yan in order to achieve its vision 2020 which favours the interests of the population
and socio-economic development of the country.
3.4 Summary of Findings

iv. In Context State of Kedah


i. In Context of Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand-Growth Economic (IMT-GT)
At the state, there are some policies that are identified as the main reference in planning Kedah as the Main Settlement Center and the District of Yan does not achieve the level of
development settlement centres in District of Yan. Structure Plan 2002-2020 divided hierarchy such as the District of Kota Setar, Kuala Muda and KubangPasu because the
development policy in State of three stages.On the firststage is main policy that aims to promote population in the Districts of Yan has not reach the population in set of the hierarchy. In the
