Work Methodology For Pile Load Test: References

The document outlines the work methodology for conducting an initial pile load test using the knetledge method. It involves applying incremental loads up to 1.5 times the assumed safe load using hydraulic jacks and dead weights. Settlement readings will be taken before and after each load increment using dial gauges. Loading will be increased until the pile reaches a total settlement of 120mm for 1200mm diameter piles or 12mm for other piles. Safety precautions like restricting public access, using flagmen and lighting for night work, and requiring proper PPE are also specified.

PROCEDURE FOR PILE LOAD TEST IN COMPRESSION ON RCC BORED CAST-IN-SITU PILE

TEST ARRANGEMENT Site Engineer SH

Load shall be provided by a Hydraulic
Jack or a battery of Hydraulic Jacks,
inserted between test pile and ISMB
members, dead weights.
1. LOAD MAINTAINED METHOD Site Engineer SH
Load shall be applied in series of
approx. 20% i.e. 1/5th of assumed safe
load with the help of the calibrated
pressure gauge, up to maximum load of
1.5 times of safe load for routine test.
2. In each stage of loading each increment Site Engineer SH
shall be maintained till the rate of
settlement of pile top is either 0.10mm in
first 30 minutes or 0.20mm in first 1 hour
or till 2 hours, whichever occurs first.

3. Settlement reading shall be taken before Site Engineer SH

and after the application of each new
load increment and at every 15 minutes
until the application of next load
increment.
4. Settlement shall be measured by Site Engineer SH
minimum two or more dial gauges of
0.01 mm sensitivity for single pile and
fixed on non-movable support with
magnetic bases and tips resting on
glass plates, fixed on base plate, placed
on top of pile, equi-spaced around the
pile top. Support of datum bar is 3D or
1.5m away from test pile.
5. Unloading may be carried out, if Site Engineer SH
possible. A period of 15 minutes may be
allowed to elapse between the two
successive stages of load decrement.
6. In case of any reference, please follow Site Engineer SH
the job procedure or IS: 2911 Part-IV.

7. The Loading shall be increased up to 2 Site Engineer SH

times of the safe load for the total
settlement of 120mm for a pile of
1200mm dia.
8. The Loading shall be increased up to Site Engineer SH
1.5 times of the safe load for the total
settlement of 12mm.

Important Safety Precautions:

1. The area shall be restricted from public entrance.

2. All truck shall be provided with reverse horns.
3. Only experienced and licensed operators / drivers shall be engaged for excavation and hauling.
4. Flagmen shall be provided at all exit points of the trucks /tippers near the job to be done.
5. If night work is to be carried out the area shall be sufficiently provided with lighting.
6. The pit, which exceeds 1200mm in depth, shall be barricaded.
7. Proper PPEs shall be used the workers and staff involved in the work.
