Lesson Plan in English 10

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
 distinguish bias and prejudice in the material viewed based on pictures and excerpt,
 evaluate situation that depict bias and prejudice.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:


 Module 2 – Establishing Solidarity
 Topic: Biases and Prejudices
 Lesson 3 - Being sensitive to others
 Materials: pictures, visual aids, colored strips
 Reference:
- Celebrating Diversity through World Literature, Learner’s Material’s (page 165 -
169) and Teacher’s Guide (page 147 - 150)

 Values Integration: Fairness and Equality


III. PROCEDURE
A. Preliminary Activities:
1. Review
 What was our lesson yesterday?


2. Motivation
 On the board there are pictures, the students will rearrange the pictures according
to what it conveys.
 What have you noticed?

B. Developmental Activities:
1. Presentation
 Bias
 - means a tendency to favor one person, group, thing or point of view over another,
often in an unfair way.

Examples
1. Female teachers give more attention to girls.
2. He always

 Prejudice
 - is an unfavorable opinion or feeling beforehand or without knowledge, thought or
reason. It simply means to pre-judge others.

Example
1. It is sometimes assumed that someone who is physically disabled is also mentally
disabled.
2. Activity

DIRECTION: identify the pictures weather it is bias or prejudice. Write your answer on the
board.

3. Analysis

 How do you feel that you can identify bias and prejudice?
 How do you feel that you cannot identify bias and prejudice?
 What will you do next time, if you’re were given another chance to identify bias and
prejudice?

Bias Scenario
I was looking for a tricycle to stop because I’m in a hurry meeting, and there came a
scenario where in the tricycle driver stop in front of me and asked where will be my destination
and he saw a 3 passenger on the other side of the road and he choose the 3 passenger over mine
in which I saw it was unfair since I was the first one whom he should get into his tricycle. The
driver wants the 3 passenger because of their fare is bigger than 1 passenger.

Prejudice Scenario
An old woman calls a tricycle, but no one attempts to stop because every driver’s mindset
contains these: That they are too slow to move, drivers will do an effort for them to get into the
tricycle, and beside their fare is similar to the students which is cheaper than the regular
passenger.

4. Abstraction
 Imagine that you were the passenger, what would you feel? Will you accept the tricycle
driver’s reasons? Why or why not?

5. Application
 Group the students into two, each group will choose their own leader. Group 1
will ask a question to Group 2, vice versa, two questions will be ask related to our
topic.
DIRECTION: Each group will evaluate the picture if it is pertaining to bias or prejudice.
Group 1 will group the pictures of Bias, then they will ask a question to Group 2
Group 2 will group the picture of Prejudice, then they will ask a question to Group 1

 How would you feel that you fail to group the pictures and answer the question of Group
1? Group 2?
 How would you feel that you can group the pictures and answer the question of Group 1?
Group 2?
 If you were given a chance to group again the pictures and ask a question what will you
do next time?

6. Generalization
What have you learned in today’s lesson?

IV. EVALUATION
DIRECTION: Identify if the statement is bias/prejudice.

1.) Bullying and discriminating someone with disability.


2.) Posting negative comments in social media about economic status of a family.
3.) Not serving someone in a restaurant or retail store because of their color of skin or race.
4.) She/he won the contest because one of the judge is his father.
5.) She got a high grade because her mother was her teacher.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Give at least to examples of personal experience when you witnessed bias /
prejudice and what you did. Write it on a ½ sheet of paper.
