Narrative Journalism

Initao National Comprehensive High School is starting a campus journalism club to improve student skills and talents. The club will develop writing, photography, cartooning and broadcasting abilities. It will allow students to express ideas and promote responsible media use. [The club] targets grades 8-12 and has 12 initial members assigned to different roles. Advisers provide training in news, feature and editorial writing, as well as photography. At competitions, the school paper won first in best paper and second in photojournalism at the division level, and placed in the top 10 in several categories at the regional level.

Improve Quality
Rationale

One avenue for the students to improve and develop their talents

and skills is through Campus Journalism.By engaging through it

students will develop their skills in writing, photography, cartooning and

radio Broadcasting.

In doing so, they may also be able to express their ideas, have

social conciousness,may be an stepping stone to journalistic career,

promote responsible journalism, fair and ethical use of social media and

enhance their competence through healthy and friendly compeition.

Thus we are developing the necessary skills they need in the

future and helped them improve the quality of learning they need.
Target Audience

In theJjournalism club we catter the students from grade 8 to

Grade 12 that are interested in Journalism.In “Ang Manunulat “the

Filipino School Paper have only 12 students. They are assigned to

different event that they are best in.

Methodology

The advisers of the Journalism class“Ang Manunulat’ Mr. Ricky

Jabien and Mrs. Arla Jean B. Caburatan accepted application from

students who desired to be in the Journalism Club.They were given test

and activities to test their knowledge on the different journalistic

event.After the screening they were then assign to the event that they

excell.

Training and lecture are given to student by the coaches and

adviser . They were trained to journalistic event like News Writing,

Feature Writing, Editorial Writing, Science and Technology Writing,

Editorial Cartooning,Copy Reading and Headline Writing and

Photography.

The training and lecture is done every ICL Time since this is not a

class but only a club.


The students were given assigned tasks like writing and

researching as part also of their training and preparation for the contest

to be participated.

During the training the students were given free snacks sometimes

from the pocket of the adviser due to the limited budget of the club.

Result

The” Ang Manunulat” participated the Division Schools Press

Comference held at MOGCHS last September 20,2017

We got 1st in Best School Paper and 2nd in Photojournalism.

During the Regional School Press Conference held at Cagayan De

Oro City last October 23-24, 2017, “Ang Manunulat “got 6th place on

Photojournalism, with Mr. Ricky Jabien as the coach 5th Place in Best in

Science Page and 8th Place in Best in Lay out and Design.
