WEEKLY REPORT 7
Name – Punya Arora
Name of Organisation – Kirat Youth Foundation
Date and Day of Work – 10 September, Sunday
th

No. of Hours – 2

1. What activity/work have you done?

In this week as a part of RISE, KYF organised a awareness and information drive in
Suddangate Palya regarding waste segregation. We spent our time speaking to local
businesses and shop keepers, asking them whether they segregated their waste. If they
did, we made sure they were doing so in the most effective way possible, with a
correct system in place depending on the nature of their business. If they did not
segregate their waste, we have information on why they should adopt such an
environmentally friendly procedures and how to go about them.

2. To whom have you addressed this activity/work?

The reason we selected SG Palya is because it is a heavily populated area, which
includes a large percentage of Christ students and faculty. This locality is filled with
shops, stalls and restaurants which cater to this massive crowd, and often stays
cluttered. The purpose of our drive was to make the disposal of waste in this area as
efficient as possible, while educating people on the benefits of segregation.

3. How many beneficiaries

Our RISE drive targeted local businesses and shops, our information was intended to
implement waste segregation systems all over SG Palya. As a result not only would these
locals be more aware of proper waste disposal techniques but it would also improve the
quality of the area and those who live there.
4. What was your learning outcome?

Through this drive I gained an understanding of the average awareness regarding waste
segregation and implementation in areas like SG Palya and how to effectively educate people
about them.
5. Do you find the application of any psychological concept in the work you have done?

We noticed, based on the sample of people interacted with that those with a callous attitude
towards environment protection measures had a lack of education. This resulted in
behavioural patterns and beliefs which were difficult for us to approach, so we had to relate
to them on a personal level before requesting them to change the way they dealt with waste in
their area.
6. Conclusion
Through this RISE drive, we managed to speak to dozens of local businesses about their waste
segregation and promote environmentally friendly measures as well as information amongst them.
