According to the document, humans are consuming resources beyond the planet's capacity and must shift from a paradigm of endless growth and consumption to one of "de-development". 1. Why must we change our paradigm of growth and consumption to that of “de-
development”?
According to the article, humans are consuming the planet beyond its capacity.
We intend to do this act for us to reach the growth we vision that is progressive. We
have this mindset that growth is about reaching the top or to be rich. We must
change this viewpoint about growth because growth means higher consumption. The
earth cannot take anymore the human activities are having and plan on having. We
must re-direct our vision and let it be de-development in which we wouldn’t consume
more and maybe consume less. In that way, it is not about quantity anymore but
quality. More progressive types tell us that we need to shift some of the yields of
growth from the richer segments of the population to the poorer ones, evening things
out a bit

2. Why are the terms de-development, de-growth and zero growth seemingly
unacceptable to the usual framework of human progress?
According to the article, these terms are presenting negative ideas. They seem to
envision people to stop growing in all terms like in life, learning, improving, and
growing. All are against the view of people about growth and self-fulfillment.

3. How have we been enframed by the notion of growth?

We vision growth as development. For example, when we were kids we all want
to grow up- be taller, mature, liberated, and independent. We all dream to have high
positions, high income, big houses, cars and all luxurious things life can offer. When
we reach this level, we view ourselves as developed human beings. Moreover, we
answer the issue about poverty by growing the economy. Growth became the
equivalent of progress. Because of this, we lack to see the much deeper meaning of
growth.

4. How do we improve our lives and yet reduce consumption?

According to the article, Robert and Edward Skidelsky on his How Much is
Enough? lay out the possibility of interventions such as banning advertising, a
shorter working week and a basic income, all of which would improve our lives while
reducing consumption. Furthermore, changing the view on growth will be a big
significance in the consumption of human. It’s about reaching a higher level of
understanding and consciousness about what we’re doing here and why.

5. What are the similarities and differences between Heidegger’s The Question
Concerning Technology and Hickel’s article?

Heidegger’s The Question Concerning Technology and Hickel’s article are the
same in a way that they both want us to see words more than its meaning. They
want us to dig deeper about it and be critical. On the contrary, they have different
interpretation about growth. To Heidegger, growth is about how a country is
developed in terms of science and technology while Hickel gave importance to the
real meaning of growth other than being progressive in a certain field. Hickel even
vision growth as stopping at some point and be able to help others to reach your
level. To Hickel, growing is not about being progressive unlike Heidegger.
