MTH202 Practice Question File Lecture No 7-9

The document contains 5 practice questions regarding set operations and Venn diagrams. Question 1 asks to find the union, intersection, difference, and complement of sets A and B where the universal set U consists of elements a through g. Question 2 defines sets of integers and asks to calculate various unions, intersections, differences, and complements. Question 3 provides a Venn diagram and asks to write an element y in the correct region. Question 4 asks to prove that A - (A - B) = (A ∩ B) using a membership table. Question 5 defines sets A and B of numbers and asks to find their intersection and difference.

Question No 1:

Let the universal set U = {a, b, c, d , e, f , g} , A = {a, c, e, g} and B = {d , e, f , g} . Find

A  B, A  B, B − A, and Ac .

Question No 2:

Let the universal set be the set of integers and let

A = {x  Z 0  x  2}, B = {x  Z 1  x  4}, and C = {x  Z 3  x  9} .

Find each of the following:

a) A  B b) A  B c ) Ac d)A C
e) A  C f ) Bc g ) Ac  B c h ) Ac  B c
i) ( A  B )c j ) ( A  B )c

Question No 3:

The sets A and B are shown on the Venn diagram as given below. The element y is such that
y  A and y  B .On the diagram write y in the correct region.

A B
Question No 4:

Prove that A − ( A − B) = ( A  B) by using the membership table.

Question No 5:
