The program started with a singing of the Philippine National Anthem conducted by
Mr. Joseph B. San, followed by a solemn prayer led by Ms. Jecelle M. Bolodo and an energizer
through the effort of Ms. Nissa S. Caparal and Ms. Leabeth A. Mangali through a dance-exercise
which participated by the teacher-participants. The seminar was formally started with opening
remarks from Mrs. Jane V. Tangalin, Head Teacher I of the English Department; she emphasized
the aim of the seminar as effective, productive, and beneficial for everyone. The SLAC was
officially opened by a warm welcome and introduction of the first speaker by Ms. Beverly A.
Florentino, the host of the program.
The first topic was discussed by Mrs. Rowelyn P. Garado. She focused on “Different
Approaches and Techniques on Teaching”. She accentuated on giving variety of teaching
strategies integrating the five macro skills which are Listening, Viewing, Reading, Writing, and
Speaking. This topic much helped the teachers on motivating their learners and makes learning
fun yet fruitful. Mrs. Garado also put emphasis on incorporating the ICT skills on our digital-
native learners. Moreover, by applying various strategies in teaching will help the teachers
facilitate and assess the learning progress and can also craft the 21st Century Skills out of our
learners to work collaboratively and creatively and to hone their critical thinking. At the same
time, to let them explore the Multiple Intelligence within them.
The next speaker was Ms. Edeza N. Sinaon. She discussed the “Revised Filipino
Orthography”. At first, she laid out the guide to the orthography or literature of the Filipino
language which is composed of rules on how to write the language of the Philippines. Wherein,
the derived rules from existing practices in the use of national language is intended to provide
standardized grapheme or written symbols and terms of use and pronunciation of these symbols.
The topic was enticingly discussed from graphemes, syllables and spellings, oral and written
spelling, dual-vowel and dual-voiced cases, digraphs, etc. Ms. Sinaon also noted that every
orthographic rule is more appreciated from historical perspective with the belief that it will
continue to change while the need for Filipino language users grows.
The SLAC session was conducted to keep abreast the school faculty with latest trends
and best practices in teaching and learning in today’s dynamic education industry. The SLAC
session has not only provided the participants an opportunity to gain new skills and knowledge,
but also encouraged them to make positive changes around them. The participants also got an
opportunity to share their knowledge and experience with colleagues, and learn new pedagogical
approaches.
The SLAC ended with the commitment of each teacher to pursue better education for
the learners of Towerville National High School. Indeed, the SLAC session conducted has been
