This document proposes an automatic and smart street lighting system that uses sensors to detect vehicle movement and only turns on street lights near approaching vehicles to save energy. It would sense when a vehicle is moving toward a section of street and switch on just that block of street lamps, rather than leaving all street lights on. This could help reduce energy usage from street lighting by 35-40% according to statistics. The system would use Arduino programming and sensors to accomplish intelligent lighting control and invert wasted energy.
