Lesson 8 Quiz: Show All Work Necessary To Solve Each Problem

1. The document contains 8 geometry problems involving proofs of triangle congruence. 2. The problems require identifying congruent parts of triangles using properties like CPCTC, vertical angles, and triangle congruence theorems like SAS, AAS, HL. 3. Diagrams are provided and students must write the full proof statements and reasons for each problem.

Lesson 8 Quiz
Show all work necessary to solve each problem.

1. Use the following diagram to complete the proof.

(6 points)

Given: ST  VU , SV  TU
Prove: S  U

Statements Reasons
ST ≅ VU Given
SV ≅ TU Given
TV ≅ TV Reflexive Property of Congruence
△ STV ≅ △UVT SSS Congruence Postulate
∠ S ≅ ∠U Corresponding parts of congruent triangles
are congruent (C.P.C.T.C)

2. Use the following diagram to complete the proof.

(8 points)

Given: B  D , DAE  BEA

Prove: ΔABC  ΔEDC

Statements Reasons
∠ B ≅ ∠ D ,∠ DAE ≅ ∠ BEA Given
Nguyen Duc Minh

AE ≅ AE Reflexive Property of Congruence

△ BAE ≅ △ DEA AAS(Angle Angle Side) Congruence Theorem
BA ≅ DE Corresponding parts of congruent triangles are
congruent (C.P.C.T.C)
∠ BCA∧∠ DCE are vertical angles Definition of Vertical Angles
∠ BCA ≅∠ DCE Vertical Angles Congruence Theorem
△ ABC ≅ △ EDC AAS (Angle Angle Side) Congruence Theorem

3. Determine if the congruence statement ΔDEG  ΔFGE is valid given the following diagram. If it is valid,
explain how you know. If the congruence statement is not valid, explain what is incorrect or what else you
would need to know for the statement to be valid.
(6 points)

ΔDEG  ΔFGE is a valid statement given the diagram above.

The two triangle shared EG;∠ D EG ≅∠ E G F (given); ED ≅ GF (given)
Therefore ΔDEG  ΔFGE (SAS Congruence Postulate.)

4. Determine if the congruence statement ΔABC  ΔCDE is valid given the following diagram. If it is valid,
explain how you know. If the congruence statement is not valid, explain what is incorrect or what else you
would need to know for the statement to be valid.
(6 points)

ΔABC  ΔCDE is not a valid statement given the diagram above. The corresponding parts of the two triangles
are not congruent. For instance: ABis not congruent ¿ CD
The statement will correct if it is △ ABC ≅ △ EDC, in which the corresponding parts are congruent.

5. Use the following diagram to complete the proof.

(6 points)

Given: mADB  mCDB  90 and AB  BC

Prove: ΔABD  ΔCBD

Statements Reasons
mADB  mCDB  90 Given
∠ ADB∧∠ BDC are ¿ angles Definition of Right Angles
AB ≅ BC Given
BD ≅ BD Reflexive Property of Congruence
△ ABD ≅ △ CBD HL (Hypotenuse Leg) Congruence
Theorem

6. Use the following diagram to find mC .

(6 points)
Nguyen Duc Minh

2 x+5+ 6 x+2 x+ 5=180 °

 10 x+10=180 °
 10 x=170 °
 x=17 °
>> m∠C=6 x =6 ( 17 )=102 °

7. Find the values of x and y in the following diagram

(6 points)

4 x=6 x−13
 2 x=13
13
 x= =6.5
2
 4 x=5 y+ 4
13
 4 ( )
2
=5 y+ 4
 26=5 y+ 4
 22=5 y
22
 y= =4.4
5

13 22
>> x= =6.5 , y= =4.4
2 5

8. Given in the following diagram that C is the midpoint of AE , and C is the midpoint of DB , prove
ΔACB  ΔECD .
(6 points)
Nguyen Duc Minh

Statements Reasons
C is the midpoint of BD Given
C is the midpoint of AE Given
BC ≅ CD Definition of Midpoint
AC ≅ CE Definition of Midpoint
∠ ACB∧∠DCE are vertical angles Definition of Vertical Angles
∠ ACB ≅ ∠ DCE Vertical Angles Congruence Theorem
