Week 6 LAS - MATH8 GUROFORMS
INTRODUCTORY CONCEPT
CONDITIONS FOR TRIANGLE CONGRUENCE
This lesson is about proving two congruent triangle by applying your deductive skills to
show congruence between triangle using the different congruence theorem.
Since congruence of triangle is defined in terms of the congruence of the three pairs of
corresponding sides and the three pairs of corresponding angles, then congruence of triangles
is also an equivalence relation.
In proving that two triangles are congruent you can use your knowledge of the properties
of congruence which are:
a. Reflexive : ABC ABC
b. Symmetric : If ABCDEF, then DEF ABC
c. Transitive : If ABCDEF and DEF GHI, then ABCDEF, then ABC GHI
Example:
Use a ruler, a compass and a protractor to construct whose two sides and included
angle have the following measures: OR=10 cm, OM = 8cm and mO=65.First construct, one of
the given segments, say with O as the vertex and OR as one side, construct a ray from O that
makes an angle of measure mO. With the needle point of the compass at O, create a circle of
radius OM. The point of intersection of the ray and the circle is the point M. Using the
construction did you have ROM.
ACTIVITIES:
ACTIVITY 1
Given: PCAB at it’s midpoint C
A C B
Prove: PAPB Note: PC is a perpendicular bisecta of AB
ASA (Angle, Side-Angle) if the two angles and the included side of one triangle are
congruent to the corresponding two angles and an included side of another side of
another triangle, the triangle are congruent. B C
SSS (Side-Side-Side) if the three sides of one triangle are congruent to the three sides
of another triangle, then the triangles are congruent.
