Week 6 LAS - MATH8 GUROFORMS

This document provides a learning activity sheet for mathematics students on proving triangle congruence. It introduces the different congruence theorems - SAS, ASA, and SSS - that can be used to prove if two triangles are congruent. Examples are given for each theorem where students must complete proof statements and reasons. The document concludes with an answer key providing the full proofs for the examples.

MATHEMATICS 8 (Quarter 3 Week 6)

INTRODUCTORY CONCEPT
CONDITIONS FOR TRIANGLE CONGRUENCE
This lesson is about proving two congruent triangle by applying your deductive skills to
show congruence between triangle using the different congruence theorem.
Since congruence of triangle is defined in terms of the congruence of the three pairs of
corresponding sides and the three pairs of corresponding angles, then congruence of triangles
is also an equivalence relation.
In proving that two triangles are congruent you can use your knowledge of the properties
of congruence which are:
a. Reflexive : ABC ABC
b. Symmetric : If ABCDEF, then  DEF ABC
c. Transitive : If ABCDEF and DEF GHI, then ABCDEF, then ABC GHI

Learning Skills from the MELCs

Proves two triangles are congruent M8GE-IIIg-1
a. SAS (Side-Angle-Side) Congruence Postulate - if two sides and an included angle of
one triangle are congruent to the corresponding two sides and the included angle of
another triangle, then the triangles are congruent.

Example:
Use a ruler, a compass and a protractor to construct whose two sides and included
angle have the following measures: OR=10 cm, OM = 8cm and mO=65.First construct, one of
the given segments, say with O as the vertex and OR as one side, construct a ray from O that
makes an angle of measure mO. With the needle point of the compass at O, create a circle of
radius OM. The point of intersection of the ray and the circle is the point M. Using the
construction did you have ROM.
