1 c Answer choices can be used in this case. We need to subtract 10 first

from each of the answer options to get the ages in 1930. Add 8 to the
dad’s age and see if that is a multiple of the son’s age. Only option c
satisfies the condition.
2 d The best way can be to go with the options. Option b and d can be
Page | 5
eliminated immediately as we need a number that is a multiple of 2
and when 3 is subtracted from it, has to be a multiple of 3. Between a
and d, d satisfies the condition. Hence ‘d’. The answer can also be
arrived at by writing two simultaneous equations.
3 c Again by substituting the options, it is easy to arrive at ‘c’ as the
answer. 30 + any of the options should yield a number that is a
multiple of 7.
4 b (R-5) = 1/3(S-5)
R = 17, at present
S=41
5 d Let the present age of Radha be x years. As per question,
X = (x-12) * 2 – 3
X = 2x-27
X = 27
Present age of Raj
= 4/9 * 27 = 12 years
Raj’s age after 5 years
= 12 + 5 = 17 years
6 c Let the present ages of Rama and Shyama be 4x and 5x years
respectively.
4x+5/5x+5 = 5/6
 25x + 25 = 24x + 30
 X = 30 – 25 = 5
 Rama’s present age = 4 x 5
 = 20 years
7 b It gains (2 min+4 min 48 seconds = 6 min 48 seconds=) 408 seconds
in (7 x 24 + 2 =) 170 hours.
Thus, the clock gains
408/170 =2.4sec/hour
It will gain (2 min = )
120 seconds in 120/2.4 hours,
i.e. 50 hours
It will show the correct time of 2 p.m. on Wednesday

8 b Actual starting time
=(12 hr. 45 min)-(1 hr. 15min.)
= 11 hr.30 min. Page | 6
= 11.30 a.m

9 c Let the present age of Meera be 3x years

The present age of Priya
= 4x years
3x-10/4x-10 = 4/7
21 x -70 = 16x-40
X = 70-40/5
=6
Meera’s age of 5 years
=3x6+5
= 23 years.

10 d A + B = 60 ….(i)
B + C = 52 ….(ii)
Subtracting (ii) from (i).
A – C = 8 years.
11 b Indira’s present age
= 20 – 8 = 12 yrs.
Lizzy’s present age
= 8/3 x 12 = 32 yrs.,
Lizzy’s age five years ago
= 32-5 = 27 years.
12 c Let the present age of Saurabh be x years
The present age of Sachin = (x+8) years
x+x+8
------------ = 36
2
 2x+8 = 72
 X = 72-8
------
2
= 32 years

Q.No Answer Hints / Explanations

13 c (c) 36 years
9 years = ⅓ of his age at the time of marriage. Page | 7
Therefore Sanjay’s age at the time of marriage = 3 x 9 years = 27
years
14 c (c) 54 years
Sum of ages, 6 years hence = 78 + 2 x 6 = 90 years
Therefore Father’s age after 6 years = ⅔ x 90 = 60 years
Therefore Father’s present age = 60 – 6 = 54 years

15 c (c) 11 years
Sum of their ages, 3 years ago = 46 – [3 x 2] = 40 years
Therefore Rijul’s age, 3 years ago = ⅕ x 40 = 8 years
Rijul’s present age is 8 + 3 = 11 years

16 c (c) 39 years
3 years ago, let sum of age of four sons = x
Then father’s age = 2x
Father’s age after 6 years = 2x + 6
Sum of the ages of 4 sons = x + (6x4) = x + 24
Therefore 2x + 6 = x + 24
Therefore x = 18
Present age of father = [18 x 2] + 3 = 39

17 c (c) 30 years
Sum of present ages = 35 years
Sum of their ages will be 85 years after (85-35)/2 = 25 years from
now.
Hence the father is 25 years older than his son
Present age of Piyush = (35-25)/2 = 5 years
Therefore age of father = 35 – 5 = 30 years.
18 a (a) 25 years
Sum of their present ages = 60 years
Therefore sum of their ages after 5 years = 60 + (5 x 2) = 70 years
After 5 years, ratio of ages of A and B will be 3:4.
Hence A’s age after 5 years = (3/7) x 70 years = 30 years
A’s present age is 30 – 5 = 25 years

19 d (d) 14 years
Sum of present ages of A, B and C is 72 years Page | 8
Therefore sum of their ages (4 years ago) = 72 – 3 x 4 = 60 years
4 years ago, the ratio of ages of A, B and C was 1:2:3
Therefore A’s age, 4 years ago = ⅙ x 60 = 10 years
Therefore A’s age, 4 years ago = 10 + 4 = 14 years

20 d (d) 11:8
Sum of ratios = 8+5 = 13
Sum of ages = 39 years
Therefore 13 ratio = 39 years =>1 ratio = 3 years
Therefore 9 years = 3 ratio
New ratio = (8+3) : (5+3) = 11:8
