Procedure to activate MFA with Microsoft Authenticator

Note: To activate MFA you will need to operate both on your smartphone and your computer. If you have any doubt on what device each step is referred to, check the symbol on the left

Download “Microsoft Authenticator” from Google Play/App Store on


1 your mobile device.
Note: If you are an iPhone user be sure you activate the notifications for the app ( click
here for further info)

On your computer visit the official Microsoft MFA setup website. If you
were already logged in proceed to step 2, otherwise you will be asked
2 to enter your full FAO email. After clicking on “Next” you will be
redirected to the FAO login portal where you will enter your credentials
to sign in.

3 You will see a “More information required” message. Click “Next”


From the drop-down menu choose “Mobile App”, then select “Receive
4 notification for verification” and click “Set up”. A QR code will be
shown on your computer screen.

Launch the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device. In the


first screen tap “Skip”. In the second screen tap “Skip”. In the third
screen tap the “Add work account” button and scan the QR code
5 shown on your PC.
Note: If asked, please allow the application to access the camera.

After few seconds, the FAO account will be added to your Microsoft

Authenticator app, and a 6-digit OTP will be visible
7 Back to your computer, click “Next” below the QR code

A “Checking activation status...” message will be shown briefly, before


turning in to a confirmation message. Click the “Next” button on the
bottom right corner of the screen.

If the “Next” button doesn`t turn blue after 1 minute, please click
here

The MFA verification will be triggered for the first time to verify the

correct pairing of your account to the mobile device

A notification will appear on your mobile phone asking you to approve

the sign-in to your account. Tap on “Approve”.
Your computer will be redirected to a new page asking for your mobile
number. Select your region and enter your phone number using only
11 digits (no spaces or punctuation marks). Click “Done”.
Note: Your phone number will be encrypted and will not be visible to any FAO
colleague, nor to the Microsoft personnel. It will not be used for any purpose different
than your authentication.

A summary of your MFA settings will be shown.


12 CLOSE THE WINDOW AND ENJOY YOUR ENHANCED IT SECURITY.
Note:  If you notice you stopped receiving emails on your mobile phone please remove
the profile and recreate  it. 
 
 

In the first screen tap “Add account”. In the second screen tap “Work

or school account” button and scan the QR code shown on your PC.

On the application tap the More Options ( ) button on the top right

corner, select Edit account, delete the already mapped account and
repeat from step 2.
