Detailed Lesson Plan in Math

The document is a daily lesson log for a 7th grade mathematics class. It discusses measures of central tendency for ungrouped data. The teacher reviews the key concepts of mean, median and mode. Examples are provided to demonstrate calculating the mean, median and mode of a set of test scores. Students participate in an activity using Kahoot to review these concepts. The teacher establishes the purpose of the new lesson and presents examples and video clips to introduce the measures of central tendency. Students are asked to practice identifying and calculating the mean, median and mode of sample ungrouped data sets.

I discuss to you about Measures of Central
Tendency of Ungrouped Data.

There are three Measure of Central

Tendency and these are the Mean, Median
and Mode.

ungrouped data?

Very good.

Take a look at these picture.

What can you tell us about these numbers? Ma’am it tells us the test scores of Abby in
Math.

Mean is the numerical average of the data set.

The most commonly used measure of central
tendency.

The formula of finding the mean:

𝑆𝑢𝑚 𝑜𝑓 𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑣𝑎𝑙𝑢𝑒𝑠
𝑴𝒆𝒂𝒏 =
𝑇𝑜𝑡𝑎𝑙 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑣𝑎𝑙𝑢𝑒𝑠

Let’s find Abby’s MEAN math test score?

97, 84, 88, 100, 95, 63, 73, 86, 97

So, we will use the formula for finding the

mean or average:

What is the formula of Mean? 𝑆𝑢𝑚 𝑜𝑓 𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑣𝑎𝑙𝑢𝑒𝑠

𝑴𝒆𝒂𝒏 =
𝑇𝑜𝑡𝑎𝑙 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑣𝑎𝑙𝑢𝑒𝑠

Very good!

Using the formula, let us now substitute the

values given,
97 + 84 + 88 + 100 + 95 + 63 + 73 + 86 + 97
𝑴𝒆𝒂𝒏 =
9

What is the sum of all values? 783 Ma’am

That’s right!
783
𝑴𝒆𝒂𝒏 =
9
𝑴𝒆𝒂𝒏 = 87

The mean or average of Abby’s Math test

score is 87.

Median is the number that is in the middle of

a set of data.

To find the median, we follow this two steps.

1. Arrange the numbers in the data set in order
from least to greatest.
2. Then find the number that is in the middle.
Find the median of Abby’s math test scores.
97, 84, 88, 100, 95, 63, 73, 86, 97

Applying the steps,

Can someone arrange the given scores from 63, 73, 84, 86, 88, 95, 97, 97, 100
least to greatest?

Very good! Now, what number is in the

middle? 88 Ma’am.

That’s right! Therefore, the median of Abby’s

test score is 88.

Is there any question about the median? Ma’am, how about when two numbers are in
the middle, how do we find the median?

Good question! If two numbers are in the

middle, add the two numbers then divide it by
two.

Find the median:

97, 84, 88, 100, 95, 63, 73, 97 63, 73, 84, 88, 95, 97, 97, 100
88 + 95 183
= = 91.5
2 2

The median is 91.5

Mode is the piece of data that occurs most

frequently in the data set.

A set of data can have:

 One mode
 More than one mode
 No mode

Find the mode of Abby’s math test scores.

97, 84, 88, 100, 95, 63, 73, 86, 97

What is the mode of Abby’s test scores?

The mode is 97 Ma’am.
Are you sure?
Yes Ma’am. The value 97 appears twice while
all the other numbers appear just once.
Very well said!
