governments deal with conflict—away from destructive approaches towards cooperative
solutions. Established in 1982, Search today has more than 900 committed staff worldwide and
implements projects in more than 35 countries across the globe.
In Myanmar, Search has been working since 2014 to support locally led processes at different

local partners across six states and three regions to support Myanmar in its priorities of peace,
development and democratic change.
Search and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) are partnering to implement a 16-
month project that will equip young women and young men with skills and opportunities to
contribute to Myanmar’s peace process at the local and national level. The project seeks to
strengthen youth participation and create greater connectivity between top-down and bottom-
up approaches to building and sustaining peace. The project additionally aims to implement and
build on the recommendations developed at the first International Symposium on Youth
Participation in Peace Processes and global policy paper, We are Here: An integrated approach to
youth-inclusive peace processes. Through amplifying local youth voices into the global arena, the
project seeks to maintain the momentum of inspiration and advocacy and empower youth
peacebuilders.
The project has two core objectives: (1) improving key young influencers’ capacity to
collaboratively engage in, and influence, formal and informal peace and security decision-making
processes (2) advancing national and international attitudes and behaviors regarding Youth,

globally.
