1) Wanda leads the Consumer Credit Services Department with an autocratic leadership style, making decisions without input from her staff. 2) Beverly, a senior employee, feels unheard and unvalued under this leadership approach. 3) The document recommends Wanda adopt a more democratic/participative leadership style to achieve better outcomes. This would involve soliciting ideas and contributions from employees like Beverly in the decision-making process.

Wanda, a recently promoted supervisor was in charge of the Consumer Credit Services

Department. She was a very “hands-on” manager, making decision, maintaining close control,

and worked tightly and often with subordinates. (Clardy, 1994). Her leadership style is

Autocratic and very directive. “In the Autocratic Leadership Style, the leader centralizes the

decision-making power in himself and give directions to his subordinates as to what they are

supposed to do and how they are required to perform the given task. Thus, a leader enjoys the

full authority and imposes his will on others (“What is Autocratic Leadership?” n.d.). This style

can be effective and useful for subordinates who crave more direction and validation to the work

rather than autonomy and empowerment.

Beverly on the other hand was likely a senior professional who felt unheard, not

validated, and not valued because Wanda’s leadership style allowed her to make decisions with

very little participation from those that reported to her. (Becker, 2019).

Wanda would still retain the final decision; however, she should allow employees to

contribute to the decision process and more involvement to have a transparent outcome of the

results of their work. Wanda especially should consider Beverly to involve the decision-making

in order for Beverly to feel better and value to the company as an employee. In turn, Beverly

could use a situational leadership style and transitional leadership style when working with

Wanda. Beverly could present her ideas to Wanda to finds common ground with her. The

Beverly and the rest of the staff to achieve more positive outcomes. The democratic leadership

style is the best especially for Beverley since she is the next expert employee after the

department manager. This style would encourage not only Beverly but also all

members of the team. This style could increase trust between the leader and the staff, reflecting

the team's performance and cooperation. I also suggest that Wanda should share her point of

view and the objectives that she seeks from the proposed changes with her team to discuss the

impact of these changes on their daily work, whether positive or negative. Hence, Wanda should

not ignore Beverley's opinion and should encourage such participation from her side as she sees

things differently to benefit the team (Jakhar, 2017). Wanda could use contingency leadership

style as well. This type of leadership allows her to change the policies as per the situation

demands, helps to enhance her leadership and decision-making skills, provides options to the

employees that help them to grow and share their ideas to the business and helps to design the
