Detailed Lesson Plan

This document outlines a lesson plan for teaching 8th grade students about Newton's Three Laws of Motion, including objectives, materials, procedures for teacher-led instruction and activities, and an assessment. The lesson plan reviews the first law of inertia, second law of acceleration, and third law of interaction through examples, discussions, and analyzing situations. Students are asked to apply their understanding of the laws through responses and by creating an informative video about one of the laws.

At the end of this session, students will be able to;
A. Explain Newton’s Three Laws of Motion
B. Solve problems concerning Laws of Acceleration, and
C. Appreciate the importance of the Newton’s Three Laws of Motion

Subject Matter:
Topic: Newton’s Three Laws of Motion
A. First Law: Law of Inertia
B. Second Law: Law of Acceleration

Procedures:

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

Review
Teacher: Good morning class! Student’s: Good morning ma’am
Teacher: Let us pray first Student: (1 leads the prayer)
(…Please lead the prayer) Student: no ma’am
Teacher: Is anyone absent today Ms
Secretary?
Teacher: Good, Before we proceed to
our lesson for today. Here are my class
rules you have to follow.
Fist, always turn on your camera, so that
I can see you, if you’re doing something
or you’re not listening.
Second, listen to the speaker, you are
only allowed to turn on your microphone
if you are told to do so.
Third, dress and act properly, I don’t
want to see anybody wearing sleeveless
men and women, also avoid
unnecessary movements like combing
your hair, etc.
Am I clear class?
Students: Yes ma’am

Motivation
So let’s have first a quick activity.
An icebreaker called One Minute Paper,
in this game I will set one minute time for
you to explain the word I will provide, so
this will test how much you could explain
in a minute. So I hope you have with you
your pen and paper as I will be calling
randomly after. Are you all set class? Students: Yes ma’am
Okay Let’s start!
What Idea is expressed in the word
motion?
One minute starts now
Timer ends, please stop writing
Ms. Please share your idea
Student sharing
(random calling)
Student 1: Our lesson last was about
Inertia.
Teacher: Okay thank you very good, all
are correct. Student 2: the inertia states that if the
forces acting upon an object are
Now can someone tell us what our

object will be 0 m/s/s.
Teacher: Very good, how about (random
calling) what can you say about inertia?

Teacher: Very good, now we will

proceed to our lesson proper.

Lesson Proper
Teacher: Our topic for this session is
the Isaac Newton’s Second Law of
Motion.
Objectives:
 Identify which Law of Newton is
being represented
 State each of Newton’s Laws of
Motion, and
 Give an example that represents
one of the laws.

Discussion:
Newton’s Laws of Motion

 Law of Acceleration (2nd Law)

Students listening carefully
- says that acceleration (gaining speed)
happens when a force acts on a mass
(object). Also says that the greater the
mass of the object being accelerated, the
greater the amount of force needed to
accelerate the object.
Riding your bicycle is a good example of
Students listening carefully
this law of motion at work. Your bicycle is
the mass. Your leg muscles pushing on
the pedals of your bicycle is the force.
When you push on the pedals, your
bicycle accelerates. You are increasing
the speed of the bicycle by applying
force to the pedals. Say you have two
identical bicycles that each have a
basket. One bicycle has an empty
basket. One bicycle has a basket full of
bricks. If you try to ride each bicycle and
you push on the pedals with the exact
same strength, you will be able to
accelerate the bike with the empty
basket MORE than the bike with the
basket full of bricks. The bricks add
mass to the second bicycle. With bricks
in the basket, you would have to apply
more force to the pedals to make the
bicycle with bricks in the basket move.

 Law of Interaction (3rd Law)

States that:
For every action there is an equal and
opposite reaction. States that when two
bodies interact, they apply forces to one
another that are equal in magnitude and
opposite in direction.
For example, a book resting on a table
applies a downward force equal to its
weight on the table. According to the
third law, the table applies an equal and
opposite force to the book. This force
occurs because the weight of the book
causes the table to deform slightly so
that it pushes back on the book like a
coiled spring.

Activity
Teacher: Now we will have another
activity. Analyse each situation from
Newton’s laws of motion

1: Running with a dog on the street

2: Pushing a sofa
3: Riding a car

Application
Based from the situations earlier

Student 1: No. 3 ma’am which performs

 Which shows the third law? And

sofa, because there is a change in
velocity and acceleration.
Students 3: It is the no. 1 ma’am,
Very good you have points for that because running has an intersection of
the feet to the ground.

Generalization
 Can you explain to me how
Newton’s Laws of Motions tie
into your daily life?
- This laws tie almost everything we
see in everyday life. These laws tell
us what was moving and what stays
still where we can use it in different
situations.

 Why should we wear seatbelts?

Student: Example is a rolling ball. The
inertia of motion allows the ball to roll
and will slowly be stopped by rolling
friction.
Student: A speeding car, which has an

change in magnitude and direction.

Students: No ma’am

Do you have any clarifications?

Evaluation
Now let’s a Five item quiz, answer the following questions.
Just write the letter of the correct answer.
a. Law of Inertia
b. Law of Acceleration
c. Law of Interaction
d. Friction
1. Jumping kangaroo
2. Pushing a table
3. Book at the table
4. Feel pain when wounded
5. Rolling ball

Enrichment
Choose one of the Newton’s Three Laws of Motion and make a 3-minute creative and
informative video.

Thank you class for your participation, kindly fix yourselves for our class picture
for this day!
Goodbye and God bless students
