d. Key Ideas

Phonics involves the study of the relationships between the letter

symbols (graphemes) of a written language and the sounds (phonemes)

they represent. Phonics is used as an aid to decoding words. It helps

pupils gain independence and self-reliance in reading but this is only one

aspect of the reading process.

Auditory discrimination which is the ability to distinguish between

sounds is essential for the acquisition of spoken language and for learning

to read. Visual discrimination is the ability to detect similarities and

differences in symbols. In learning to read, children need to be able to

make fine discrimination. Transfer of learning is great if the written

symbols that children are working with are similar to those that they will

meet in reading.

F. Fixing Skills

The pupils will be divided into four groups to perform an activity.

1. Each group has to decorate the given activity paper to them by using beads, strings,

colored paper and monggo seeds (mosaic) according to their assigned art material.

Each group must have their own respective leader.

2. The teacher will start to distribute the work in each group. The leader in each group will

come to receive their given task.

3. In each group, they will need to help each other to easily finish their work. The group

who will finish early and will have a good and clean work will get 5 stars and will have a

chance to fly their airplane.

4. There are corresponding points in every spot where their airplanes will reach and land.

The higher their airplanes will reach, the higher their points will be.

5. If they are finished, the group must first identify the object/ animal that they decorated.

Each pupil who can answer correct will fly their airplane to get points and the group who

will get the most score will get stars and rewards like balloons and sweets as well.

6. The teacher can easily manage the class by telling the children that anyone who will

make a noise in each group will lose one star.
