Cost Estimation of Residential Electrical Wiring

Experiment No.9 Date:
30.11.2021
AIM:

In this experiment, the estimation and costing of house wiring or residential plan, materials
required for wiring, estimation, and cost of the lighting circuit and heating circuit for house
wiring or residential plan is carried out.

PLAN:
ASSUMPTIONS:

• The height of the meter board, distribution board from the floor level = 2 meters.
• Height of horizontal run and lighting fitting from floor level = 3 meters.
• Height of switchboard from floor level = 1.5 meters.

STEP 1: Total Lighting Load and Number of Circuits

S.No Location Area(m/sq) Wattage(10w/m sq) Points Points

Lights Fans
1. Hall 25 250 2*60 1*80
2. Dining room 8 80 1*60 1*80
3. Bath room 160 160 1*40(fl) -
4. M.B.Room 9 90 1*60 1*80
1*40(fl)
5. veranda 1 10 1*40(fl) -
6. Store Room 6 60 1*40(fl) -
7. Pooja Room 1 10 1*40(fl) -
8. Living Area 16.5 165 1*60 1*80
2*40(fl)
9. Kitchen 9 90 1*40(fl) -
Total Load = 620W 320W

Total lighting circuit load = 620+320 = 940W

Total heating circuit load = 3000W

Total load of installation = 940+3000 =3940W

STEP 2: Wiring Diagram for the Plan

STEP 3: Size of the Wire

S.No Location Horizontal V.D. to Vertical Wall Total

Fan)
1. M.B.Room 1.5+1.5+1.5+1 1 0.5 5.5
2. Dining 1+1 1 0.5 2
Room
3. Verandah 1+1+2.5 1 0.5
4. Hall 1 0.5
5. Bathroom 1 0.5
6. Store 1 0.5

7. Pooja 1 0.5
8. Living 1 0.5

9. Kitchen 1 0.5
Total 1.65 47
Let, a factor of safety be 2(for future demands or load).
Current rating = load current * 2= 3.30 * 2 = 6.6Amps.
Therefore, for lighting circuit 3/22 SWG copper wire is selected from the wire table.

STEP 4: Length of Conduit Required

Total = 47 + 1,65 ( wall crossing)=48.65=49 (say).

Total PVC conduit = 49 +5% wastage=51.45=52 meter (say).

STEP 5: Total Length of Wire Required

Length of wire(3/22 copper wire) = 52*3= 156m.

STEP 6:

Wood screws (assorted size)=4(No of MB+SB)=4(1+8)=36 + 5% wastage = 38 Nos.

STEP 7:

The number of wood plugs required is 38 Nos as same as wood screws.

STEP 8: Other Accessories Required

1. ICDP Switch Load current= 3.30*2= 6.60A. A 15A ICDP switch is selected or 15A MCB is used.
2. Switches = No of lamps + fans + sockets= 17 + 2= 19Nos 250 V, 5A
switches = 19Nos
3.A 250 volts, 5 A, 3-Pin socket = 2Nos

4. No of fan regulators = 4Nos

5.No of Pendant holder = 9Nos

6.No of Angle holder = 5Nos
7. No of ceiling roses = No of fan + No of pendant= 4+ 9 = 13Nos

8. Fluorescent fitting, 230 V, 5 A = 9 set

9. Ceiling fans, 230 V = 4 set

10.Incandescent fitting = 7 set

11.No of Tees = 4 Nos

12.Meter Board = 1 Nos

13.Switch Board = 8 Nos

STEP 9: Labour Charges

The labour charge depends upon the number of points.

No of points= (lights + fan + sockets) * 0.5 + MB +DB= (5+4+10) * 0.5 + 1 + 1=19Nos
Labour Cost = Cost per point * No of points= 195 * 19 =Rs 3705.00

STEP 10: Cost of Materials

1.Conduit pipes = ₹25

2. Metal boxes and switches = ₹50

3. Cables and wires = ₹1200

4. Cables and wires (High) = ₹7300

5. Switches lower range = ₹30

6.Switches higher range = ₹50

7.Sockets = ₹300

8.Dimmers = ₹300

9.MCB = ₹250

10. Fan = ₹1500

11.Light = ₹ 300

12. L.E.D = ₹250

Total: ₹11,555

STEP 11: Total Cost for Plan

Total cost = Labour Charges + Item Charges Total cost = ₹3705 + ₹11555

Total cost = ₹15260
