EC352 Exp2 B19EC005

1. The document describes an experiment using a multisim simulator to design adder and subtractor circuits using operational amplifiers. 2. Circuits were designed for an inverting summing amplifier with unity gain and gain of 2, an inverting amplifier, a non-inverting amplifier with gain of 2, and a subtractor amplifier. 3. The results from the multisim simulations matched the theoretical calculations for the different circuit configurations.

Aim:
1. Design an inverting summing amplifier circuit for a unity gain with Rin=5KΩ,
DC Input voltage of 1V, 2V and 3V respectively and verify the output.
2. Repeat question 1 with a gain of 2.
3. Design an inverting amplifier with feedback resistor of 20KΩ, R1=5KΩ,
R2=10KΩ and R3=15KΩ and Vin=1Vpp, 2Vpp and 3Vpp of 1KHz.
4. Design a non-inverting amplifier with closed loop gain of 2. Rin=10KΩ and
Vin=3VDC and 3V DC.
5. Design a subtractor amplifier with Rin=1KΩ and Rf=2.2KΩ and DC supply
voltage of 1V and 1.5V respectively.
6. Repeat question with AC input voltage.
Materials Required:
Multisim Simulator.

Theory:
1. Adder amplifier:
An adder is an electronic circuit that produces an output, which is equal to the
sum of the applied inputs. This section discusses about the op-amp based adder
circuit.
An op-amp based adder produces an output equal to the sum of the input
voltages applied at its inverting terminal. It is also called as a summing amplifier,
since the output is an amplified one.
The adder can be obtained by using either non-inverting mode or inverting
amplifier. If the inverting mode is used the inputs are applied through
resistors to the inverting terminal and non-inverting terminal is grounded
and vice versa
The circuit diagram of an op-amp based adder is shown in the following figure –

2. Subtractor amplifier:
A subtractor is an electronic circuit that produces an output, which is equal to the
difference of the applied inputs. This section discusses about the op-amp based
subtractor circuit.
An op-amp based subtractor produces an output equal to the difference of the
input voltages applied at its inverting and non-inverting terminals. It is also called
as a difference amplifier, since the output is an amplified one.
The circuit diagram of an op-amp based subtractor is shown in the following
figure –
Experiment Model and Result:
1. Inverting summing amplifier unity gain:

2. Inverting summing amplifier with gain is 2:

3. Inverting summing amplifier with AC voltage source:
4. Non-Inverting summing amplifier with gain of 2:
5. Subtractor amplifier:
6. Subtractor amplifier with AC voltage source:

Observation: Hence we can conclude that using multisim simulator we have

designed summing and subtractor amplifier and get the output which is
similar to the result calculated theoretically.
