OBJECTIVE: To determine the application of an Op-Amp as adder and subtructor circuit and also to
compare the theoretical and practical results of an adder and subtructor.
MATERIALS REQUIRED
- DC power supply 4
- μA741 Op-Amp
- Resistors: 1MΩ, 100KΩ, 10KΩ and 1KΩ
- Digital Multimeter
- Oscilloscope (Dual trace)
- Op-Amp Module Board
- Connecting wires.
THEORY
An adder circuit is used to obtain an output which is a linear combination of a number of input signals at
the inverting terminal as figure 1.
V1
V2 _Vo
V3
The advantage of is that it may be extended to a very large number of inputs requiring only one additional
resistor for each additional input. A subtractor is a differential amplifier which amplifies the difference
between the two inverting and non-inverting input signals. This indicates that a subtractor is the
combination of inverting and non-inverting amplifiers.
PROCEDURE
1. The given adder Op-Amp circuit was setup circuit on Op-Amp Module Board as fig 2.
V1
V2 Vo
2. +15 V and -15V DC voltage was supplied to the terminal of Vcc and Vee respectively.
3. Different DC voltage was applied to the terminal of V1 and V2. And Vo was measured and
recorded to corresponding input voltage.
4. The given subtractor Op-Amp circuit was setup circuit on Op-Amp Module Board as fig 3.
V1 Vo
V2
- Adder and subtractor circuit is just to add and subtract the input voltage.

CONCLUSION
Adder and Subtractor Op-Amp Circuit is useful for adding an input voltage amount and their result is
very near to the theoretical value of the circuit.
