METHODOLOGY
Pix4Dmapper is multi-purpose software for mapping professionals and it produces survey grade
results while giving users complete control over the project. The first step is the opening of the
software, which prompt user to create a new project or opening of an existing project if there is
any that was already created. Apart from this, the software prompt user to give a name to the
newly created project and browse to where one wants to save it, and for the practical the name of
the Project was PROJECT_1. Moreover, software prompt user to go to the next page in order to
select images that were captured during flight. All images will be loaded onto the window and if
there is any image with an error or that was blurry captured the software will shows that a certain
image has an error and user must decide to remove it from the list.
1
After all, the software will prompt user to go to image properties window, where the user can
edit, does image geo-location by either specifying the coordinate system used or select their own
and also the zone where the operator was working on. As for the practical, since the data used
were captured in Zimbabwe, Southern part of matebele land the software detected the coordinate
system as well as the zone. Under selected camera model, the software displays the properties of
all images loaded but in this case only nine (9) images were able to be loaded for faster
processing because large amount of images slow down the process and will take time to process.
Image properties are arranged according to the name of an image, group but in this case all
images are in the same group since they were all captured using the same drone, other properties
are latitude, longitude and altitude coordinates, accuracy in horizontal versus vertical accuracy,
as well as omega, phi and kappa residuals in degree units.
Despite this, software will prompt user to move on to the select output coordinate system of
which the selected coordinate was X,Y Datum: WGS 1984/ UTM Zone 35S (EGM 96 Geoid),
coordinate system specified in meters (m) as the selected units. Since the software already auto-
detected the coordinate system as well as the UTM Zone 35S, there is no need for the user to
continue with advanced coordinate options.

The diagram below shows how the software chosen the coordinate system and it auto detect
Furthermore, the software prompt user to go to the net window where processing options
template will be selected and they are standard (3D maps, 3D models, Ag multi spectral), rapid
as well as advanced. For this practical, standard template was selected for 3D maps, where the
outputs to be generated are orthomosaic, DSM, 3D Mesh and point clouds. The software prompt
user to finish the process and load the satellite map showing how the flight plan was conducted.

RESULTS ANALYSIS
By looking at orthomosaic and DSM below once can tell that the practical was very successful,
since the outputs were obtained
Orthomosaics and the corresponding Sparse Digital Surface Model (DSM)
CONCLUSION
Finally, since the software use for processing of images is a non-commercial it only allows for
initial processing, point cloud and mesh processing, but DSM orthomosaic and index will be
displayed in the quality report because the software generate a report at the end of the process.
