PHYSICAL EDUCATION 11

Most Essential Learning Competency:


Self-assesses health-related fitness (HRF) status, barriers to physical activity assessment
participation and one’s diet. (PEH11FH-Ig-i-6)
Content Standard:
The learner demonstrates understanding of fitness and exercise in optimizing one’s health as
a habit; as requisite for physical activity assessment performance, and as a career
opportunity.
Performance Standard:
The learner leads fitness events with proficiency and confidence resulting in independent
pursuit and in influencing others positively.

I. Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to :
a. give examples of physical activities where the fitness components are commonly
observed;
b. reflect on the importance of engaging in health-related fitness physical activities; and
c. assess their personal fitness by executing the physical fitness tests.
II. Subject Matter
a. Topic : Fitness Testing and Assessment
b. Reference/s: Fitness for Life -HOPE Senior High School, pages 19-34
c. Time Allotment: 15 minutes
d. Materials : laptop and projector, powerpoint presentation, images and graphics interchange
format of physical fitness tests
e. Strategies: technology-assisted learning, collaborative learning, and demonstration.
III. Procedure
A. Preliminaries
✓ Prayer
✓ Checking of Attendance
✓ Review of the previous lesson
✓ Presentation of the learning objectives
B. Motivation
The students will be tasked to identify which of the two pictures / gifs best suit the fitness
component presented. They will used their previous knowledge from their junior high
school to accomplish the task.

5. Coordination

C.Lesson Proper
➢ The teacher will now introduce the lesson about physical fitness tests.
➢ The teacher will present the two parts of physical fitness tests
➢ Having the two type of physical fitness tests, the teacher will now dig in deep into the main
topic focusing on the health-related fitness tests.
➢ The following contents will be presented during the discussion and each fitness test per
component will be executed with proper scoring

HEALTH RELATED FITNESS


1. BODY COMPOSITION - the amount of the body’s fat-free mass as compared
to the amount of body fat
• Body Mass Index (BMI)
Formula: BMI = weight
height ²
Materials for assessment: weighing scale and tape measure or meter stick

2. CARDIOVASCULAR ENDURANCE - the ability of the heart, lungs and blood


vessels to deliver oxygen to working muscles and tissues.
• 3 minutes step-test
Materials for assessment: step board and stop watch

3. FLEXIBILITY - the ability of the joints to move through a full range of motion.
• Zipper Test; and Sit and Reach
Materials for assessment: ruler; tape measure
4. MUSCULAR STRENGTH - the ability of muscles to generate force against
physical objects.
• Push-ups ; Curl- ups
Materials for assessment: exercise mat

5. MUSCULAR ENDURANCE - the ability of muscles to continue to perform or


prolong an activity without fatigue.
• Push-ups ; Curl- ups
Materials for assessment: exercise mat

➢ The following questions are expected to be answered by the students during the discussion.
1. What is the purpose of physical fitness test?
2. What are the body parts that belong to the upper extremities and lower
extremities?
3. How is muscular strength different from muscular endurance?

D. Generalization
➢ The teacher will ask the students to do a recap of the health-related fitness
components and tests that was discussed.
➢ The teacher will ask the students the following questions for them to reflect on.
1. Which of the following components should you give more attention to be
developed or improved?
2. What are the tips you can share in order to improve your health-related fitness?
3. What is the importance of engaging in health-related fitness activities?

IV. EVALUATION
Direction: Complete the table below by giving physical activities that will improve each
component.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Direction: Create a one (1) week physical activity program board that will help you improve
your health-related fitness components.
