Course Description:
The course provides background on numerical analysis needed to solve civil engineering problems numerically when their analytical solution is either not
available or difficult to obtain. MATLAB programming environment or its equivalent.

Course Code: MATH 315

Credit Units: 3 units (2 hrs lecture and 3 hrs laboratory)

Prerequisites: Differential Equations

Program Outcomes:
a. apply knowledge of mathematics and science to solve complex civil engineering problems;
b. design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data;
c. design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints, in accordance with standards;
d. function in multidisciplinary and multi-cultural teams;
e. identify, formulate, and solve complex civil engineering problems;
f. understand professional and ethical responsibility;
g. communicate effectively civil engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large;
h. understand the impact of civil engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context
i. recognize the need for, and engage in life-long learning
j. know contemporary issues;
k. use techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for civil engineering practice;
l. know and understand engineering and management principles as a member and leader of a team, and to manage projects in a

Course Requirements:
In accordance to the IATF and LGU’s, ordinances and protocols due to pandemic the following requirements in the course was consider to be the basis of grading
students.

 Class Standing Requirements (Proof of viewing/ receiving the pre-recorded videos to check if the students received and watch the discussion. Partaking
on online discussion, questions and queries to clarify the lesson. Online reporting and recitation during the discussion period online/streams.
 Online Examination (Partaking the online examination on the scheduled date and time is a must).
 Attendance
 Projects/Assignments/Plates
 Major Examinations
 Quizzes/Seat works
 Portfolio of Assignments and Quizzes

Course Policies:
 Google classroom and messenger will be used in this course/subject.
 Attendance will be monitored thru feedbacks, confirmation and acknowledgement to
any activities, announcements and requirements to be posted.
 Online (but not real time) Quizzes/Exams will be given and scheduled ahead of time
and all students must take these quizzes/exams.
 Major exams (Mid-term and Final) (online) will be given at the time prepared by the
College. All students must take the major exams.
 Projects and assignments must be submitted on scheduled deadline in all possible
means.
 Students will be informed of the activities posted in the google classroom thru/via
messenger.

Grading will be as follows: Major exam (MTE & FTE) - 40%
Class Standing - 60%
Quizzes 30%
Assignments 10%
Problem Sets 15%
Attendance 5%

Methods of Computation
Absolute zero shall be used in all examination and quizzes. Percentile shall be used in recording grades when evaluating students using the formula
