Characteristics of Guided Inductive Inquiry Model (Orlich et

al., 2007)

1. The learners progress from specific observations to inferences or


generalizations.
• Learners infer conclusions (inductions) based on the
observation.

2. The objective is to learn (or reinforce) the process of examining events or


objects and then arriving at an appropriate generalization from the
observations.

3. The teacher controls the specifics of the lesson (the events, data, materials
or objects) and thus acts as the class leader.
• From the word guided, yung teacher po yung mag a-
act as class leader, iguguide niya po yung learners na
makapag infer ng conclusions from a set of data or
facts.

4. Each student acts to the specifics and attempts to structure a meaningful


pattern based on his or her observations and those of others in the class.
• Bawat students ay makakabuo ng makahulugang
pattern based on their observations.

5. The classroom is to be considered a learning laboratory.

6. Usually, a fixed number of generalizations will be elicited from the learners.

7. The teacher encourages each student to communicate his or her


generalizations to the class so that others may benefit from them.
A General Model of Inquiry (Orlich et al., 2007)
1. identifying a problem
• Being aware of something
• A prevalent social problem, a social phenomenon or a
concept that requires to be investigated to
understand it.

2. Preparing statement of research objectives


• Proposing testable hypotheses
• A hypothesis must be testable to ensure that it is
valid.

3. Collecting data
• Gathering evidence
• Conducting an experiment
• Surveying a sample

4. Interpreting data
• Make meaningful statements supported by data
• Testing hypotheses

5. Developing tentative Conclusion


• Establishing relationships or patterns
• Specifying generations

6. Replication
• Obtaining new data
• Revising original conclusions

This model can be adapted to other inquiry models, such as


problem solving. These steps form the basis of what we know as
the scientific method. The students can surely develop the
different process skills as they utilize this model effectively.
