ACTIVITY 5

Topic: Global Cities

Instruction: Answer the following questions

1. Enumerate 5 cities in the Philippines that may be considered global cities.

- The Philippines is a country that has several cities that are considered
to be global cities. These cities are economic hubs where businesses thrive
and where people from different parts of the world come together to live
and work. Five cities that may be considered global cities in the
Philippines are;
 Manila
 Quezon City
 Makati
 Cebu City
 Davao City

2. Based on your answer in no. 1 explain why do you consider this cities as
global cities.
- Based on my answer in no. 1, these five cities are considered as global
cities since; Manila is the capital city of the Philippines and is the center of
government, business, and education. Quezon City is the largest city in
Metro Manila and is home to many international companies. Makati is the
financial center of the Philippines and is home to the Philippine Stock
Exchange. Cebu City is the second-largest city in the Philippines and is a
major center for trade, commerce, and tourism. Davao City is the largest
city on the island of Mindanao and is a major agricultural and business
center. These five cities are important not just to the Philippines but also to
the Southeast Asian region as a whole.

3. What do you think are the challenges of this cities?

- The global cities in the Philippines face various challenges that hinder
their development and progress. So, I think one of the major challenges is
urbanization, which has led to increased population growth and the
emergence of slum areas. This has resulted in inadequate housing, water,
and sanitation facilities, leading to poor living conditions for the urban
poor. Another challenge is traffic congestion, which has become a major
problem in most global cities, resulting in lost productivity and increased
air pollution. In addition, the rapid pace of economic growth and
development has led to environmental challenges such as pollution and
deforestation, which have affected the health and well-being of the
citizens. Overall, addressing these challenges requires collaboration
between the government, private sector, and civil society to develop
sustainable solutions that promote inclusive economic growth and
improve the quality of life for all citizens.

4. If you are to decide where you want to live?

- If I were to decide where I want to live, I would like to live in Manila,
the bustling capital city of the Philippines. There are several reasons for
this desire. First off, Manila is a major commercial and business city that
offers a wealth of chances for professional advancement. Second, the city
is rich in history and culture, with a wide variety of museums, art
galleries, and historical sites that shed light on the country's past. Lastly,
there is an amazing culinary scene with a wide selection of affordable local
and international cuisine. Finally, Manila is a great place for weekend trips
and outdoor activities because of its proximity to stunning beaches and
scenic areas. Generally, Manila is a desirable city to reside in due to its
blend of economic opportunity, cultural diversity, and natural beauty.
