Detailed Lesson Plan in Science IV

I Objective: At the end of the lesson the student should be able to:
 Observe the effects of force.
 Explain the effects of force when applied to an object.
(4FE-IIIa-1)

II Subject Matter:
A. Topic: Effects of Force on the Movement of an Object
B. References: K to 12 MELC-Based,TG.pg.219, LM pg. 175
C. Materials: powerpoint presentation, rubber band, sponge, clay, banana, folder,
balloon, handkerchief, garter, etc.
D. Process Skills: Observing and Communicating
E. Value Integration: Realizing the importance of force in daily life.

III. Procedure:

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Preparatory Activities
Everybody stands up and let’s have a pupils stand up
prayer.
Amen!
Good morning class.
Good morning, ma’am.

Who are absent today? none ma’am

If none that’s good to know that you had a

perfect attendance.

B. Review/Recall
Before we start our lesson let’s have our
review.

I have here a five situation all you have to do

is to tell me if that is pull or push.

(Powerpoint Presentation)

No. SITUATION PUSH

OR
PULL
1 Unplugged a cellphone charger.
2 Playing tug-of-war
3 A boy closing the cabinet
4 Pressing down the light botton
5 A girl opening a drawer

pupils answer the questions

Very good kids!

Let’s do the push pull clap pupils clap their hands

C. Motivation
I have here a ball, observe what happen. pupils will observe the ball

How do the ball start moving? by pushing it ma’am

Very good!

How will you stop the ball? by touching it ma’am

Okay very good! It is by the used FORCE

So we used force to keep the ball moving and

to stop the ball.

By using force you can:

 stop the ball
 keep the ball moving
 And you can change the direction of the
ball.

D.
Presentation

(Powerpoint presentation)
We used force in daily activities such as: pupils will listen to teacher.
 Kicking a ball
 Exercise
 Buying groceries
 Pulling grass
 Walking with our dog
 Going to school
yes ma’am
Based on the activities that you watch,
Is there an effect of force on object?

Very good, the effects of force on objects

 Can cause a stationary object to move
 A moving object to change its speed and
 A moving object to change its direction
of motion.

Forces are all around us. They affect our

surroundings and us. We cannot see force, but
we can feel them or sees their effects.
E. Discussion

Powerpoint presentation)
Okay we have here letter

A. Force can make a stationary object move

or make moving object move faster.

 A toy car can be made to move by

giving it a little push

If you have a toy car like this, in that way the

toy car stops. By using force, it move and you
can control the fastest and slowest of the toy
car.

 A stationary football can be made

to move by giving it a small push
(i.e.,by kicking it)

As you can see the ball stop. You kick the ball
using force. Therefore, you move the ball.

 If we have an already moving toy

car or ball, we can make it move
faster by giving it a push in the
direction in which it is moving.
Thus, a force can make a
stationary object move, and it can
also make an already moving
object move faster.

As you can see the ball move slow but by

using force the ball move faster that is why
force can make moving object move faster.

B. Force can slow down or completely stop

a moving object.

 A bicycle can be stopped or

slowed down by applying brakes.

If you use force on brakes you can stop a

moving bike.

 In football, the force applied by

the goalkeeper stops the ball hit
towards the goal.

To stop the ball not to hit the goal. So the goal

keeper used force to stop the ball.

In order to stop or slow down a moving body,

we need to apply force in a direction opposite
to the direction of motion of the moving body.

C. Force can change the direction of a

moving object.

 In football the players can change

the direction of the moving ball
by kicking it in a different
direction. In these examples,
forces changes the direction of a
moving object.

THE FORCE APPLIED ON AN OBJECT

AFFECTS THE OBJECTS’ MOVEMENT
 Objects with lesser mass require lesser
force force for it to move to some
distance while objects with greater mass
require greater or stronger force to make
it move to a longer distance.

Example:
Chair Wooden table

 When the force to an object is balance,

the object cannot move.

Example:
Tug of war pushing box

Did you understand our lesson class?

Okay let us see if you have learn something in

our lesson.

F. Generalization

What is force again? Force is the effort one applies

on something to make it move.
How will it affect the force of catching a ball? It will stop moving ma’am.
How will it affect the force of hitting a moving
ball with a bat? It change direction ma’am

How will it affect the force of using car It will slow down ma’am.
brakes?

How will it affect the force of using the pedal It will speed up ma’am.
harder?

G. Application

Prepare the objects rubber band, sponge, clay,

banana, paper, candy, ball, balloon, folder, garter
and handkerchief.

I will group you into 4 each group will choose one pupils will do the activity
of these things you can use to move the toy car.
The group who reaches the nearest line will be the
winner.

IV. Evaluation
Direction: Encircle the letter of the correct answer.

1. Which of these is needed to make the object move?

a. Gravity
b. Inertia
c. Force
d. Power

2. Which among of the objects below require lesser force to move?

a. Board eraser
b. Notebook
c. Pencil
d. Scissor
3. Which among the objects will move faster upon the application of force?
a. Marble
b. Ping-pong ball
c. Pebble
d. Beach ball
4. What happens when equal or balanced forces on an object?
a. The object will move
b. The object will remain at rest
c. The object will move up and down
d. The object will move easily
5. During physical Education activities, what will you do if someone pushes you?
a. Push the person infront of you
b. Push the person behind you
c. Hold to someone near you
d. Tell them not to push anyone

V. Assignment
Tomorrow bring with you any toy car. We will have an activity.
Class observes the pictures that I will Pupils will observe the pictures.
show you. (powerpoint presentation).

What can you say about the first picture?

The boy pushes the wheelchair to
move.

Very good! How about the 2nd picture?

A girl learns to ride a bike. Her dad
pushes the bike so that it moves
Great! How about the 3rd picture? forward.

A boy catches a fish. He used his

fishing pole to pull the fish out of
water.
Very good! How about the 4th picture?

A girl brushes her teeth.

Very good!m How about the last picture?

A boy put on his clothes.

Good job kids!
Everything we just described applied force.

Can you move your chair.

Will the chair move if you pust it? Yes ma’am

How about if you pull it? Yes ma’am

Why do you think your chair move when you Yes ma’am
push and pull it?
Force was applied on the chair
Very good! Force was applied on the chair.
ma’am.

Force
 is the effort one applies on something to
make it move.
 is either push or pull on an object. Pull
is to move object toward you. Push is to
move object away from you.
 It can be due to the gravity, magnetism,
friction, or anything that might cause an
object to move.
 Force can also change the movement of
an object.

Let’s have another activity. I will group you

into 4, each group will observe the activity.

Before you proceed doing the activity, here are

the rules you must observered while doing the
group activity:

(Powerpoint Presentation)
Everybody please read.

Get along The pupils read.

Respect Others
On task
Use quite voices
Group I
Participate
1 Get the strip of paper and hold
Stay in your group
it on one end.
2. Hold the paper high. Then run
Okay you may now proceed with around the room. Observe what
your activity. happens to the strip of paper.

Group II
1. Place the ruler at a slanted
angle in the basin.
2. Place the small leaf in the
middle of the ruler.
3. Pour water from the glass to
the higher end of the ruler.
Make sure that the water hits
the leaf. Observe what
happens to the leaf.

Group III
1. Put the one-peso coin on the
table.
2. Place the magnet very near the
coin but not touching it.
Observe what happens.

Goup IV
1. Put the toy car on the floor.
2. Roll the ball to hit the toy car.
Observe what happens to the
toy car.
Force is very important in our daily lives.

Since everybody is done, one member of the

group will present in front.
The pupils present and and explain
their observation.
H. Discussion

Every day, you apply forces in everything you

do. When you eat, you use force to lift your
plate, your spoon and fork, and your glass of
water. You used force when you move objects
like when you push a door or pull a chair.

Force
There are different kinds of forces.
(powerpoint presentation)

 Force from Electricity- electricity

provides electrical force that powers
electrical appliance.

Example: Electrical force moves the

blades of electric fan.

 Force from Gravity- ‘What goes up

must go down.’ This saying refers to
the force that pulls everything
downward to Earth.

Example: Throwing a ball

 Force from Magnets

 there was a magnetic force
when the materials are made
of iron or steel.

Examples of these are nails, pins and

paper clips.

However not all metals are attracted to

magnets.

 Forces from Wind

 wind is a moving air. It blows
leaves and light objects like
paper.
 The blowing of the wind can
cool your body during warm
days.
 However, the force of strong
winds such as typhoon, can
destroy houses and other
structures.

 Force from moving water

 The running water of a river
moves dry leaves, plants and
everything on the river along
its way.
 However, in the ocean, forces
from big waves can knock
over a boat.

 Force from earthquakes

 Forces under the ground
shake the earth. The
movement of the earth is
called earthquake.
 Earthquakes can destroy
roads and buildings just like
what happed to Turkey and
Syria.

Im glad that you fully understand our lesson.

I. Generalization
