2 General
1.1 Planning
The installation should be planned in details before commencing. The cables should be listed in a cable
plan, with number of pairs etc. The location of each unit in the communication system should be planned to
obtain maximum performance and user availability.

1.2 Power
The operating power is 220VAC 60Hz as primary, and 24VDC as backup. With automatic switching
between primary and secondary power source.

1.3 Marking
Each cable is to be marked with cable numbers.
Each conductor is to be marked with the specific termination numbers.
Please note that MRC uses plug-able screw terminals in all units.

1.4 Fastening
Where applicable, the cables and the conductors shall be clamped to the structure with cable ties.

1.5 Preservation
Prior to, during, and after installation the equipment must be handled with care. And protected against acid
holding fluids, pollution, moist, impacts etc.
This is in order to avoid damaged equipment, for which MRC will claim void warranty.

1.6 Cable Requirements

All cables used in the MCX system must be of approved ship cable type.
Requirements:
- Common outer screen
- Individually twisted pairs
- Recommended conductor size is 0.75 mm²
- All cabling in the MCX must be a separate network.
- Do not combine different systems in the same cable. This is to prevent disturbance and noise caused by
interference.

1.7 Screen Connection

In order to obtain maximum
performance after installation, it is
necessary to terminate the cables
ground the screens in a good
manner.
The cables are to de-isolated by
removing approximately 200 mm of
the outer insulation.
Then the screen braid is cut off
approximately 30 mm longer than
the outer isolation. The conductors
are to be de-isolated and ferruled
before they are inserted into the
terminals.

The outer screen is clamped to the

cable fixing rails inside the cabinet.
Cable ties of a conductive type
(metal) are recommended for best
result. The cable outer screens are
to be terminated as shown. Conductive type of cable ties is recommended to obtain best possible screen
connections.

2.9 Connection diagram among I.S. barrier box (BB-922), telephones and peripheral devices.
This telephone system is designed for intrinsically safe construction and proper ignition grade (IIC
T6) so that it can be communicated in hazardous area where gas can be exploded.
In order to be intrinsically safe, energy and energy storage must be constrained to “safe” levels in
hazardous area apparatus. Wiring inherently has capacitance formed by a dielectric material between
two conductors.

2.9.1 Wiring concept diagram

2.9.2 Detail connection wiring of the I.S. telephone

The A/T barrier box BB-922 is placed in a non-hazardous area up to one 300-meter from the phone,
limiting the energy levels going to the hazardous area to conform to intrinsically-safe requirements.
Where multiple I.S. telephone wires are routed together, shielded cable should be used. The use of
shielded cable prevents cross-talk from occurring between multiple I.S. telephone circuits. The shield
must be grounded to an I.S. ground and connected only at the barrier box.

Typical intrinsically-safe installation

3.6 I.S. Type Telephone (LC-213K, L, M)

This telephone system is designed for intrinsically safe construction and proper ignition grade (IIC T6) so
that it can be communicated in hazardous area where gas can be exploded.
The intrinsically safe construction does not ignite explosive gas or dust when the heat is caused by short
circuit, broken line and ground. Also, it is especially designed for ship to prevent water, humidity and
insects. This system, the telephone set and calling unit, has switch, terminal and replay. In calling, it uses
an air horn in hazardous area, and uses the buzzer and bell in safety area.
The telephone set adapts the low noise OP-AMP, so it improves call tone and side tone. Moreover, it
largely reduces noise incoming through a telephone transmitter; by using the circuit who’s CMRR
(Common Mode Rejection Ratio) is high.
The power is supplied to "JB Box". The current and voltage are limited for explosion-proof architecture.
As shown in figure below, the Intrinsic Safety system is largely divided into two groups; One is telephone
set(Portable) and another is calling unit(Relay and terminal).

2. Explanation of Circuit
2.1 Configuration of System
An auto-exchanger for the MCX - 5000 series includes power source unit, switching regulator
unit, CPU board, dial tone board, trunk board, I/O switching board, display board etc.
1. Except for switching regular unit and display board, the main devices make replacement
and maintenance easily because they support plug-in.
The following figure shows the signal flow of each device:

2.2 CPU Board

The CPU board controls the overall system. 8085 Micro-Processor performs all functions by program
in system ROM. Timer sets time for morning call, and CPU reads time data and uses them as a variety
of time information. This time information is operated by built-in battery even during power failure.
Also, it is transmitted to display board through buffer. The Watch Dog circuit is automatically
initialized if the failure is generated in program, so it recovers the system normally. CPU monitors
the selected I/O board through card select port, address bus and control signal port. At this
time, if any subscriber picks up the handset, it is detected by data bus and operated in order of
program. The following figure shows the detailed flow of CPU board:

2.3 Dial Tone Board

A tone generator creates 350Hz, 440Hz, 480Hz, 620Hz, and melody.
The dial tone is transmitted to dial line and the rest of them are transmitted to cross point
SW. The dial signal received from the terminal is connected to one dial line via speech line
and sent to DTMF receiver.
In case of paging, first a chime bell generator is operated and sends the signal to public addresser.
Then, the voice signal line is connected from cross point SW.

2.4 Trunk Board

Trunk board has four trunk ports and four subscriber ports. First, the ring signal inputted in
trunk line is detected by a ring detector and carried to CPU via MUX. Next, CPU sends the signal
via DEMUX to connect trunk line to matching trans. Then, the ring signal is disconnected and
a matching transformer connects the voice signal to one of speech lines in cross point SW.

2.5 I/O Switch Board

The I/O SW board accepts eight subscriber ports. If your pick up the handset from the terminal, the signal is
detected by hang up detector and carried to CPU via MUX. CPU connects a subscriber line to the speech line
in cross point SW. And then, a call is available. If the ring signal is sent, the demux is decoded by the address
and control signal and carried to the ring signal. Then, the call signal is sent and other party can hear it.

The following figure shows the signal flow:

2.6 Power Supply Circuit

The power supply circuit includes AD and DA noise filter, AC voltage transformer, rectification
circuit and smoothing circuit. Also, it includes the power switch. The DC-28 V power is supplied to
switching regulator unit, changed to DC-24V in regulator, and transmitted to switching regulator and
ring generator. The switching regulator creates DC-2V, 5V, 8V and 12V supplied to each circuit
and they are transmitted to rectification circuit. The I/O of switching regulator is insulated
to DC power. The ring generator creates the power required for ring and transmits it. If the main
power is in power failure, it operates the AC/DC switch and supply the power to DC power. If the
failure is generated in switching circuit or CPU notifies the abnormal subscribers telephone state,
the power supply circuit operates the relay and generates the alarm.
The following figure shows the configuration diagram of this device:
