Course Description:
Mathematics is an integral part of students in business, economics and the social
sciences because of the advancement in quantitative tools and the computer. This
course will provide an informal, non-intimidating presentation of the mathematical
principles, techniques and applications most useful for business students. This
familiarity can assist them in being better critics and users of these tools and better
decision makers.
Course Objectives:
This course will help students to:
Understand and apply the skills required for selected Mathematical Concepts
encountered in business situations
Imply Practical application of Fundamental and Arithmetic skills
Prepare solid foundation for Accounting, Management, Marketing, Finance
and Small Business
Learning Outcomes:
After studying this course, students should be able to:
Demonstrate factual knowledge including the mathematical notation and
terminology used in this course.
Describe the fundamental principles arising from the mathematical ideas
associated to business applications. Students will identify and apply the laws
and formulas that result directly from the definitions;
Apply the course material along with techniques and procedures covered in
this course to solve business related problems.
Use the facts, formulas, and the techniques learned in this course to solve
basic business problems.
Develop specific skills, competencies, and thought processes sufficient to
support further study or work in this field or related fields.

Participation:
Students are required to attend all classes and read all the assigned material in
advance of class (although not necessarily with perfect comprehension). Advanced
preparation and class participation are crucial for proper conceptual understanding.
During discussion sessions, the instructor generally keeps track of the insightful and
useful comments students make. (Irrelevant and Unproductive contribution is not
rewarded).
