WEEK 1 ASSIGNMENT - AP and Series

1. What is the average of all three digits numbers which are divisible by 7.
https://byjus.com/question-answer/the-sum-of-all-three-digit-natural-numbers-which-are-divisible-
by-7-is-25501-1/

2. In an A.P, if the sum to 17 terms is equal to sum to 33 terms, then sum to 9 terms will be equal
to sum to ‘X’ terms. Find X.

To solve the problem, we need to use the formula for the sum of an arithmetic progression. If the
sum to 17 terms is equal to the sum to 33 terms, then the sum to 16 terms will be equal to the sum
of the next 16 terms. Let the common difference be d and the first term be a. Then, we have:

Sum to 17 terms = (17/2) * [2a + (17-1)d]

Sum to 33 terms = (33/2) * [2a + (33-1)d]
Sum to 16 terms = (16/2) * [2a + (16-1)d] = 8 * [2a + 15d]
Sum of next 16 terms = (17/2) * [2a + (16)d] + (16/2) * [2a + (17)d] = 8 * [4a + 31d]

Since the sum to 17 terms is equal to the sum to 33 terms, we have:

(17/2) * [2a + (17-1)d] = (33/2) * [2a + (33-1)d]

Simplifying this equation, we get:

a + 8d = 0

Substituting this value of a in the expression for the sum of the next 16 terms, we get:

Sum of next 16 terms = 8 * [4a + 31d] = 8 * [4(-8d) + 31d] = 8 * 9d = 72d

Therefore, the sum to 9 terms will be equal to half of the sum of the next 16 terms, which is:

Sum to 9 terms = (1/2) * (Sum of next 16 terms)/2 = (1/2) * 72d/2 = 18d

Hence, X = 25, since the sum to 25 terms will be equal to the sum to 9 terms plus the sum of the
next 16 terms.
3. How many terms of the series -18,-15,-12, ,........ must be taken that the sum may be 72?
To find the number of terms of the series -18,-15,-12, ,........ that must be taken to get a sum of 72,
we need to use the formula for the sum of an arithmetic progression. Let the first term be a=-18 and
the common difference be d=3. Then, the nth term of the series is given by:

an = a + (n-1)d
We need to find the value of n such that the sum of the first n terms is equal to 72. Using the
formula for the sum of an arithmetic progression, we have:

Sn = (n/2) * [2a + (n-1)d]

Substituting the values of a and d, we get:

Sn = (n/2) * [-36 + 3(n-1)]

Simplifying this equation, we get:

Sn = (3n^2 - 57n + 288)/2

We need to find the value of n such that Sn = 72. Therefore, we have:

(3n^2 - 57n + 288)/2 = 72

Simplifying this equation, we get:

3n^2 - 57n + 288 = 144

3n^2 - 57n + 144 = 0

Dividing both sides by 3, we get:

n^2 - 19n + 48 = 0

Factoring this equation, we get:

(n - 3)(n - 16) = 0

Therefore, n = 3 or n = 16. Since we need to take at least 3 terms to get a sum of 72, the answer is 3.
4. Find the sum of 100 terms of the series 1+6+4+10+7+14+....…(Wrong Answer-- Chyange)

To find the sum of the first 100 terms of the series 1+6+4+10+7+14+..., we can rewrite the series as two
separate arithmetic progressions and then combine their sums. The two series are:

1. 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, ...

2. 6, 10, 14, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36, 39, ...

For the first series, the common difference is 3, and for the second series, the common difference is 4. We can
find the sum of each series separately and then add the results.Sum of the first series:
Sn1 = (n/2) * [2a + (n-1)d]
Sn1 = (100/2) * [2(1) + (100-1) * 3]
Sn1 = 50 * 6
Sn1 = 300Sum of the second series:
Sn2 = (n/2) * [2a + (n-1)d]
Sn2 = (100/2) * [2(6) + (100-1) * 4]
Sn2 = 50 * 14
Sn2 = 700Now, we can add the sums of the two series:Sum of the first 100 terms = 300 + 700 = 1000So, the
sum of the first 100 terms of the given series is 1000.

5. How many natural numbers between 400 and 500 are there which are multiples of 7.
6. The Internal angles of a plane polygon are in A.P. The smallest angle is 100 degrees and the
common difference is 10 degrees. Find the number of sides of the polygon?
7. Find the value of 1-2-3+2-3-4_....+ upto 99 terms.
8. How many three digit numbers have the property that their digits taken from left to right form
an A.P. List the numbers also.
9. The sum of 5 numbers of an A.P is 30 and the sum of their squares is 220. Which of the following
term is the third term.
10. The first term of and AP is 2 and the common difference is 4. Which of the following will be a
term of this AP. (ans with explanation)
