Finite sequence and Infinite sequence?

Finite Sequence – a function whose domain is the finite set {1, 2, 3, …, n}
- a sequence that has a last term.

Infinite Sequence – a function whose domain is the infinite set {1 , 2 ,3 , … }

- Having no limits

- a sequence that does not have a last term.

D. Discussing new
concepts and The teacher discusses the definition and emphasize that examples 1&4 are
practicing new finite geometric sequence because it has a last term while examples 2&3 are
skills #1 infinite geometric sequence because the sequence does not have a last term.

DISCUSSIONS:

REMEMBER:

The formula for the sum of the first n terms in a geometric

sequence is

Sn =
a1−a1 r
n
(
Sn= a1 1−r
n
)
or
1−r 1−r

where Sn= the sum

a 1 = the first term
r = the common ratio, r ≠ 1.

REMEMBER:

The sum S of the terms of an infinite geometric sequence is

a1
S= ,
1−r

Where a 1, is the first term and r is the common ratio, and | r | < 1.
