THE THIRD PRESBOARD EXAMINATION 2020-21 Clays X (ICSE) SCIENCE Paper-2 CHEMISTRY Time: Two hours Maximum on + Answers (0 this paper: must be written on the answer seript provided separately © You will NOT be allowed to write during the first 15 minutes © This time is to be spent in reading the question paper * The time given at the head of this paper is the tine allowed for writing the answers ©The intended marks for questions or parts of questions are given in brackets [ * All subsections of cach question or parts of question must be answered in the correct order * Please do not write anything on your question paper except your name and roll number * This paper is divided into two sections. Section I [40 marks] and Section Hf [40 marks}. Section 1 is compulsory. Attempt any four questions from Section I Give balanced equations wherever required. SECTION 1 [40 marks} Attempt all questions from this Section, Question 1 (a) Name the following (Formula not acceptable): (5) (i) A white solid used for drying Ammonia (ii) Product formed when concentrated HC! (iii) The gas liberated when dilute HCI reacts with active metals (iv) A common ore of Aluminium (v) Most reactive halogen. added to Copper oxide (b) Write a balanced chemical equation for each of the following rea (5) (i Sulphur reacts with concentrated HINO (ii) Red Lead is treated with concentrated HCL Magnesium nitride is warmed with water Methane reacts with Chlorine in presence of diffused sunlight Metal sulphite reacts with dilute HsSOs. © relevant observation for each of the following reactions: (5) (i) Moist Lead acetate paper is introduced into a jar of Hydrogen sulphide gas. (v) Hydrogen chloride is soluble in water. 5) (€) Solve the following: (A compound has following percentage composition: H= 1.59%, N = 22.22%, O = 76.19%. Find the empirical formula of the compound. [H=1,N=14,0=16 (i) What is the empirical formula of Acetic acid [CH3;COOH]? (Q) Give a reason for each of the following statements: {5 (@) Alkali metals are strong reducing agents. (ii) Methane does not undergo addition reactions but Ethene does, (iii) Tonization potential of the elements increases across a period. SECTION II [40 marks] Attempt any four questions from this Section. Question 2 (a) Answer the questions by choosing the correct option from the list of gases given @ below: Sulphur dioxide, Hydrogen chloride, Ammonia, Chlorine (i) Gas A which is basic in nature (ii) Gas B which turns lime water milky (iii) Gas C which gives dense white fumes with gas A. Write a balanced chemical equation for the reaction between gas C and gas A. (iv) (b) (i) _ Draw an electron dot structure of Ammonia molecule. Q) (N=7,H=]} (ii) What do you mean by lone pair of electrons? w (©) There are three elements E, F and G with atomic numbers 19, 8 and 17 respectively. (B] (i) Classify the elements as metals and non metals. (ii) Give the molecular formula of the compound formed between E and G and state the type of chemical bond in this compound.
